Interesting view of blood sugar range

I took all of Chris' BG tests for 2008 - 326 of them! - and graphed them from lowest to highest BG value just to see how many of his tests are under 200 mg/dL and how many are over.

I record all of his tests, food amounts, medications given, and heart rate checks in an Excel spreadsheet and have always found it easier to analyze blood sugar trends with a visual chart for curves.

Thought I'd share it. When I first did this, I had the readings graphed chronologically but I couldn't really see the big picture that way. This sorting of the readings from lowest to highest told me what I wanted to know - how much time Chris' BG spends below 200.

I was looking back to see when this forum officially started - which turned out to be two years ago on March 17, 2008.

And found this post.

I always thought this was a really interesting way to look at blood sugar. Plus a demonstration of the kinds of things you can do when you keep a record of all those tests in Excel!

This plots every single home blood glucose test result for Chris for about 2.5 months, 326 tests as we routinely tested before three of Chris' four meals and injections a day, organizing them by the blood sugar level to see how many of his tests found his blood sugar below 200.

Looks to be about 3/4 of them with another substantial share coming in at less than 300. He was not especially well in 2008 so this was pretty good.

Natalie, that really is a very interesting view of blood glucose ranges! Makes Chris look very good, if you ask me!

Congratulations on your second forum-birthday! - guess I'm just over a day late with that! Lots was going on around the time you opened the forum officially, including the Intervet announcement that the starting dose for Vetsulin was now cut to half its previous size!

Also, I opened my new diabetes section on Coherent Dog on 23 March 2008, which is why I notice dates around that time.

This forum has served a lot of people in a lot of ways since you opened it, and I'm sure it will continue to do that, largely because of your wonderful ways of thinking and ability to look at things in different ways - as evidenced by this thread! Do keep up the good work, and here's my personal vote of thanks for all you do.

Very interesting to see so many BG readings plotted over a set time span. As complicated as Chris's case was, it's pretty amazing he spent so much time under 200. Kudos to you!

Congratulations on the anniversary of K9D!! I can't even put into words what this place has meant to me & Noodle and clearly so many others. It's such a wealth of reliable information and it can't be underestimated how invaluable it is to be able to connect with other families in trying to provide the very best diabetic care for their beloved family member. Thank you so much for providing it for all of us. It's a beautiful legacy & tribute for Chris who lives on in every dog who has been helped here.

Two things:

1) 75% of the time under 200 - WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWW!!!!!!! That totally rocks!

2) a HUGE thank you for all you do - Soaphie would not be regulated if it wasn't for this board.
