View Full Version : Doggles for a dog who needs them

I wish I had found this forum a lot sooner. Everyone was so kind in their wishes for Kyla. It's been a week, and tomorrow I am going to pick up her ashes. I'm bringing all the needles I have to the vet in hopes she can give them to someone who needs them for their pet and can't afford to buy them.

When Kyla started losing her sight, the flickering sunlight through tree branches, and even shadows, scared her and she would flinch. I bought her "Doggles" and that really helped. When her sight went completely, I bought the "black" lenses to put in them, to protect her eyes when she was outside. I am putting the pair she wore in her little box of memories.

But...

I have a brand new pair of "Doggles", size small (for dogs 9-25 pounds), plus a set of the black lenses. I had bought this pair as "spare" in case Kyla's ever broke. I would like to be able to give these to a dog who is losing their sight to diabetes in honor of Kyla. Is there any way you could post this on the forum anywhere? If someone has a dog losing their sight and would like to have these, please send me a Personal Message or let Natalie know and she will provide my email address.

Thanks,

Sandy

Oh, Sandy - how nice of you to make all those donations!

I did the same when Kumbi died - my vet collected a huge haul, because I had 100 test strips for my OneTouch Ultra2 meter, a brand new Ultra2 not used nor set up yet, test strips for ketones - almost a full vial, a full box of syringes, and some other stuff. I KNOW some client of my vet's will be grateful, as I was when I received almost a full box of syringes from someone whose cat had died.

Doggles are wonderful things! I never used them, but we got lucky; Kumbi didn't get any eye-scratches. Mostly, we walked along the roadway, but he also negotiated some brushy areas without getting scratched. Doggles are wonderful protection! I read about them on the blinddogs Yahoo group.

I'm sure you're missing Kyla fiercely, as I do Kumbi; it's a month since Kumbi died of cancer (NOT of diabetes).

I wish there were a way to pass through and beyond the inevitable grief of loss, but of course, there isn't; we just have to travel that road. For me, passing on Kumbi's unused supplies made a big difference - didn't ease my grief, but knowing some diabetic dog or cat would benefit feels good to me.

Kumbi travels with me still, in my heart, along with his elder companion, Kwali, and the considerable number of dogs and a few cats who went before them.

Anyway, somebody, I'm sure, will have great use for your Doggles!

May your grief have relatively easy passage, Sandy. I'm so glad you made it here to the forum before Kyla died. It's an honor to know you.

I emailed Kyla's mom to let her know you are interested. I'm going to copy your address and send it to her as it's probably not good to have your name and address posted on the public forum.
