I have debated whether to start a monthly update. Maybe instead I'll just post an update thread periodically when we haven't heard from folks in a while.

So please let us know how you and yours are doing! :)

:(I am frantic, as my glucopet code 21 are not drawing up blood Niki BG seems to be high, but its only been hi for a week with the new strips, she isn't leaking pee, or breathing hard, other than her normal panting about an hour after food.

I dunno I gotta check with Karen return the 2 bottle of strips, out of 50 strips I may have gotten 8 readings.

I tried my Reli on meter that said 460 so I don't know what to subtract or add to that or if its even right.

We have had a lot of storms and rain, she's been scratching the floors and running to the door and not happy unless I come inside, as I stay in my garden shed and do other things while it is raining. So I come inside and sit with her until the storm passes.

Plus I think she misses Chief, she is laying around and not herself, I have been taking her with me when I go out, she was brought into our lives when we had 3 dogs and she made 4 and now she is alone and I think it could be affecting her, plus the damn storms.

If i can't get a good reading and get some new strips I'm gonna half to go to the vet for a BG, she was at 156 3 hrs after food when vet checked her, that was the day we had to let Chief go.

So I am at a loss and worried. I don't trust the strips they ain't drawing up the blood and i don't trust the Reli on one.

So time will tell, I have had it and its only Monday or Tuesday early AM

Monkey is doing great. He has stayed pretty steady for the last several months. I have increased his broccoli (steamed in chicken broth) to help curb his hunger.

Dolly... will Niki accept a new canine member of the family if s/he is a mature, mellow dog? Maybe she could help you pick one out.

With Niki years ago when she came home with me, all the other 3 dogs did their smelling of her etc, she was just accepted even by our other female.

When I moved here, my neighbor didn't want their dog, I felt sorry for this dog as they left her out on a run all nite even when it was freezing, I used to sneak up when they were not home and give her food.

Anyway when they moved they asked if I wanted her, so I said I'd try, but Niki was not going for that, and this other poor dog was so starved for attention she was growling at my other dogs, I fell bad I had to take her to the animal shelter, I just could not give her the attention she needed so badly and with Niki just getting diag. etc.

I guess I could think about it, but with Niki being blind, she follows me everywhere and hunts me down when there is a storm, I was down in the cellar cleaning up, storm starts, she runs down our first set of 3 steps thinking I am outside, so i holler up to her its ok, just lay down up there. ( I have a baby gate on top of my cellar steps) I have not left her alone since Chief passed.

Ah I was just considering it, but i don't think I could give the new dog the attention it would need and Niki would start her running back and forth with her baby toy in her mouth shaking it back and forth, she did that when I gave any of my other dogs attention. But they were used to her moods and just ignored her, after all they taught her all she knows.

Plus Niki has this PO at me bark, I have not heard it being I have not left her alone, but when I go out without her, I get hell when I get back. Its a weird "I'm mad at you kind of bark" not a constant barking, but I have to pet her and tell her I'm sorry I had to leave, I swear she knows what I am talking about, she knows what I'm sorry means, no doubt from giving her shots years back.:)

So I wouldn't want the new dog to think he could bark at me every time I come home like Niki does, Niki is surely in a class of her own.

Who knows? You can never say never, some dog may appear here !

Hi from Apollo and I!

So far we are doing very well.
The vomiting has stopped, and so have the runs. :)
He made the transition to the W/D can and dry - and is also taking supplements (Denosyl & Milk Thistle).
I am really glad we have added the supplements!!!
We have also been able to reduce his insulin - he is now at 4.5 units 2 times a day!

I have been reading here almost everyday - I am so sorry to hear about some of the furbabies -- prayers and best wishes to all of you.
