Diet: Hill's WD dry food

Insulin:Caninsulin

Number of units per injection and injections per day:
2 x 20 units

Other med.: Vetmedin (heart murmur), Soloxine (Thyroid)

Penny is blind since March 2011, but not 100% as she knows day & night. She doesn't have a problem at all which she shows on daily walks of around 20 min each. Recently she started getting up during the night and drinks a lot, which results in having to walk her 3AM in the morning. Been to the vets yesterday and waiting for the blood results.

I copied your post here so Penny would have her own thread.
Did they draw blood just for lab work yesterday or did they do a full day curve to see how her blood sugar is looking?

Lots of great support and information here to help you. Thanks for the info on penny. I'm sure you will get a lot of great ideas to help with the diabetes.

Are you home testing yet? Do you have Penny on a twice daily feeding schedule? Have you or the vet ever done a BG curve? I've only been here for a couple of months but it literally saved my sanity and eased my nerves thru this process. The people here are like one big virtual family willing and able to help.

Take some time and read the info that Natalie has put together on the site. I spent about 4 days reading every article on diabetes and then I began looking at various threads from owners talking about the challenges they face.

Welcome! Everyone is so helpful here. My Jenny went blind in September and can usually tell light and dark just like your Penny. Some days are better than others though (bonk)

Could Penny have some type of infection that might've cause her blood sugar to rise?

Let us know the results from yesterday. My dogs have ALWAYS gotten me up at 3am for a nature call. It is no fun if you don't have to do it! (my boy dog has a small bladder)

my dog nibbles went blind around june i believe he can also see light and dark becuase he squints in the sun. everyone here is very helpful and supportive. they pushed me to home test and i'm so glad i did. it's literally a lifesaver.
