  • Human Vitamins for Dogs how much

Does anyone know of a iink for vitamins that we can give our dogs, I want to give Niki some calcium and magnesium now but I want to be sure of how much, 1/4 of the tablet? I have looked in the Merck vet manual but it does not show this.

I know you have to watch what you give being some things can turn toxic or make your pet get ill.

All i see is the on the dog food labels or human labels is the % so if something has 2% that means its only 2% of the daily requirement, so a human could take 98% of that vitamin a day or from a food to equal the 100% daily requirement.

        Dolly,

"Figures provided by the National Research Council in it's latest book published in 2006. Each Measurement listed is amount needed per kg. of body weight unless otherwise indicated."

You see this at every heading:

"Measurements in grams unless otherwise indicated."

Only see Vitamin A listed there measured in IU's:

        "Measurements in grams unless otherwise indicated.µg = micrograms 1µg = 40 IU

"Vitamin A, (µg retinol) µg Adequate Intake - 40; Recommended Daily Allowance - 50;Safe Upper Limit - 2,099 (IU)"

Just a word of caution to others--one IU of Vitamin A is not equivalent to an IU of another vitamin--any more than an IU measurement of insulin is equivalent to anything but insulin, regardless of species, strength or type.

One needs to be very careful when adding additional supplements that your pet does not have any underlying conditions such as early kidney failure which would restrict the use of some supplements that could make matters worse. Eileen
