Fungal infections of the paranasal sinuses are uncommon and usually occur in individuals who are immunocompromised.

Chronic invasive fungal sinusitis is a slowly progressive fungal infection with a low-grade invasive process and usually occurs in patients with diabetes.

A possible case of canine nasal aspergillosis.

Journal of the Japan Veterinary Medical Association, 2005 (Vol. 58) (No. 5) 334-336

Primary symptoms of sneezing and nasal bleeding, and histopathological findings of an intranasal biopsy specimen suggested aspergillosis in an outdoor-raising Golden Retriever, although neither culture nor PCR of biopsy samples detected any fungi. Nonetheless, local infusion of clotrimazole greatly improved purulent nasal discharge. We therefore diagnosed this case aspergillosis. This case suggests the impossibility of detecting nasal aspergillosis on the basis of a fungal culture or PCR of multiple biopsy samples.

Long-Term Outcomes in Dogs With Sinonasal Aspergillosis Treated With Intranasal Infusions of Enilconazole

Here you see that it can be successfully treated but may recur. It can be a problem for people with diabetes also, because diabetes is one of the diseases which also involves the immune system. All those with diabetes have a tendency toward getting infections more readily than someone without diabetes and have more difficulty getting rid of them than someone who doesn't have it.

HTH! :)
