Sherpa is a 6 year old 110 lb Rottie, who belongs to the couple who bought our solar home ~ 2 yrs ago. This young family has 2 small children and find the added challenge of a Sherpa a bit overwhelming. Sherpa developed diabetes after hip surgery. Sherpa has had lots of nighttime peeing, and the family has been sleep deprived. He had an episode of hypoglycemia this week, which was very frightening to all of them.
Sherpa has gained back all but 20 lbs of his wt loss. He’s on Humulin N and got 11 units of U100 in a U40 syringes which means he actually got 27.5 units of insulin at 8:30m. He came to my house for a play date with my Diamond at 10am, and a glucose curve. I did not get a fasting sugar. His 10:30 sugar was 187 (with Starz’s old meter). It was tricky to get a lip test done on this big boy, so I got a drop from a callous. Sherpa has been ‘marking’ the outside, so I don’t think this is the same frequent urination that the family has experienced, but it makes me wonder if he has an underlying UTI. He was recently on antibiotics for an infection in his metal plate for his hip surgery.
I’m going to do a curve on him today, and post his results later.
