  • Computer again-fixed must read-Vista on the way out

As I type it is so quiet I feel like I am in another world, I took my computer up to the fix it place, armed with my new power supply which was free from hp since I am still under warranty, the guy opens the side of it takes a look, turns it on, says is this the sound, "yes it is" , the fan needed cleaned out which is right in front of the CPU, so he gets a vaccum and sprays that can of air at the fan and at the same time uses the vacuum on it, and cleaned the inside of the computer.

I said well i guess i can do this, he said yes but hold your vacuum hose away from it a bit, he told me to call hp cuz no doubt the cpu was over heating and that why the fan was going strong all the time.

I got a memory chip put in also, cost $80.00, well.....it was worth it to me to have silence now, and more memory, had I know about the fans inside and who all really is using a sweeper in their computers, it never occured to me, not at the top of my list, so I best do it at least once a year.

So I gotta call hp and get the cpu thing.

I noticed this noise alot when I would go to other forums, I assume they must load alot of things into memory.

So now I have quiet peace in this room now, and why the other people at hp or ms when I put the phone to the computer to hear the noise just ignored me like I was an idiot !!

Anyway I had asked about upgrading to Vista, he said no, MS is coming out with a Windows 7, I guess they learned from Vista and the problems.

So theres a heads up for anyone who did not know this, I didn't, I only use this computer for bill pay, this forum and a few other places, so I could not imagine why my computer was going so slow, so I gotta do some work laying all around in this office cuz with taking the computer apart, and all the other stuff, you know I had to rearrange everything, so thats another mess............

LOL Dolly, if only it worked this way w humans too! I could use another memory chip but not for my computer. Happy to hear you've found peace and solitude. I'm still not at 100% w mine, but it works for what I need it for at this point.

Don't do Vista!!!! It's a mess. Yes MS is coming out with Windows 7 but they've delayed it again. I'm in this business so I understand. I go through an internal power supply yearly and typically its because a bunch of dust gets in there I try to keep it dusted, but dusting is not my favorite thing in life to do when I have some spare time.
Forbin, miss you every day. See you at the bridge Buddy.

Whether I'd recommend upgrading to Vista would depend on how much memory and power your computer has. If it's an older system, I wouldn't. At the moment, my computer is still running XP.

But... I wouldn't jump to the new OS either. They ALL have problems when they first come out. My husband's laptop has Vista and we didn't buy it until a year or two after Vista first came out so the bugs were worked out by then and he hasn't had any problems with it at all.

But he also has a lot of memory and a fast processor.

Same thing will happen with the new operating system. Unless you want to be a guinea pig, give any new OS some time to get the kinks worked out before using it - that's my motto.

I mainly stuck with NT when I bought this computer because all of the software I use daily was not yet Vista compatible. It would be no problem to run Vista on this computer now.
