Since CanineCushings.net is down, I have opened up a forum specifically for Cushings disease here so that anyone who needs help can access it. The administrator and moderators at CC.net are members here and will be monitoring the forum to help as needed!

Natalie -GREAT of you to open this forum here! But how about the CanineCushings.net forum? Will that re-open? Is it a server problem, do you know? Something like hardware gone bad?
There's so much there that I hope doesn't get lost! Meantime, at least - thanks to the CC people for coming over here to help out!
My Kumbi only has diabetes, and I hope neither he, nor Kwali, my 14-year-old birthday girl - today - gets Cushings. If they did, I KNOW I have two good places - no, three! to go - the CanineCushings.net forum (assuming it will be back), this one, and the one I mentioned on Everything Else earlier today (a Yahoo Group).
Lynne - my continuing condolences to you; it is SO hard - glad you're wtih us.

Anyone here at K9diabetes who has the personal email of a member of the Cushings forum...
Please let them know that this space is here. I will endeavor to process the new memberships ASAP - it will be helpful if you can ask them to list either you or CC.net as the referrer as then it will be obvious that I can approve them.
I'm hoping that a network of members with personal email addresses will be able to spread the word fairly quickly.
It's all about the dogs - anything we can do to help we are happy to do!

Natalie, thank you so much for opening your forum to us and all our Cushpups. After all the help and support that you have given us through the years at cc.net, it feels really special to now be "logging in" here as part of your family.
Thank you especially for providing this venue and this opportunity as we await the return of cc.net!

Marianne - I hope cc.net returns without problems. When servers go down, it is NO FUN. Same for personal computers! - but with a forum like yours, it's just awful to lose it, even for a day.
Best of luck with getting cc.net back. And I add my thanks to Natalie, bacause although I don't have a cushpup, some of my very dear friends have.

Natalie,
As everyone has already said, thanks for letting cc.net borrow your forum. I hope the site is up and running again soon, I belong to another forum that was once shut down for six months, hope its not that long!
There must be lots of members that won't know to come here and must be wondering what to do especially if they need help at this time. Its a pity there can't be a link here from Google etc!
Thanks again,

Here's a crazy idea:
Could we take out a Google add to redirect members here when they click on the CC.net link and get that screen? (I don't know how much Google adds cost though.)

The reason I think that buying a Google Ad and putting up on the "old" CC.net site (and maybe Google itself too) could be good at this point is that it takes time for the Google spiders etc. to work their way through sites and also how far up Google places a site on its rankings (how close to the top of the first page) depends on how many hits the site has had - it would take a while for a new site to work it's way up from what I understand.
Buying a Google Ad would fast track things and, if the ad was put up on "old" site it would allow us to take advantage of the ranking of the old site in the short term. It will be around now that people will be clicking on the old website trying to get through.
Another idea: We could contact Kate Connick and ask if we can put up a link at her site sending people to K9D. It won't pick up our members necessarily but it will bring new people (who ordinarily would have found CC.net) here.
Alison

I agree its a great idea. The thing is you don't buy a google ad. You pay for key word search optimization. (called paid search) You have no guarantee it would show up on the cc.net page. It is all search based, not page based.
Luckily there are few selling products to cushings dogs so it would not be asexpensive. Number of paying advertisers determines the price. This is why I want to discuss it with our technoid at work.
I don't do this work but I manage his efforts and the ad bills. I am glad to help if you want.
You are right that the crawlers take more time - however there are tricks to speed it up. Neither one of these solutions would bring people to the k9d site tomorrow.

From what I read in the info re Google Ads you can stipulate where you want it placed and pay per click or pay at a flat rate I think.
I'll go have a look again.
Here's the link to the info (meant to put it in in previous post - duh!): https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?service=adwords&cd=AU&hl=en-AU<mpl=adwords&passive=true&ifr=false&alwf=true&continue=https%3A%2F%2Fadwords.google.com.au%2Fsel ect%2Fgaiaauth%3Fapt%3DNone%26ugl%3Dtrue&sourceid=awo&subid=au-en_AU-et-adsctr
I've only skimmed this but it looks like you can target what sites on which you want your ads:https://adwords.google.com.au/support/bin/answer.py?answer=18265

There's a page in the Pet Diabetes Wiki dealing with Cushing's because it's often found along with DM. I can change the link on that page to this board if you like. Then people who are reading there will know where to find you now.
Kathy
Adding--when I Google "canine cushings board" one of the hits on the first page is to the Pet Diabetes Wiki page on Cushing's:
"Cushing's disease - Pet Diabetes
"Another health problem for canine Cushing's patients is high blood pressure ... Canine Cushing's Message Board where help and support are available. ..."
http://petdiabetes.wikia.com/wiki/Cushing's_disease
At present, the link is to cc.net.

Hey Kathy! Yes, that would be very helpful, I think. The Pet Diabetes Wiki site does indeed come up as one of the first 5 listed sites when I google "canine cushings message board". :D
I'm also thinking that it's still very possible that cc.net will be back up and running fairly soon. It's only been down for three or four days and I am quite sure that regular backups have been done there ever since its inception, so once the problem is figured out, it shouldn't be hard for the owner to restore the message board with all posts and threads and photos etc intact.
You can always change the link at the Wiki site back to cc.net if and when the cc.net site is back up and running, of course.
Meanwhile, let's everyone do our best to pass the word on to anyone we have contact info for, to let them know that Nat has set up a temporary meeting place for us here.

I was shocked when I visited the Cushings board and saw the generic page. Does anyone know what happened? I feel so bad for the people struggling with a new diagnosis or looking for advice. As many of you know we lost Lacy to an unrelated cancer but I still check back every few days to see how other dogs are getting along and to see if I can help anyone facing an adrenalectomy.
Has anyone here been in touch with any of the board moderators who might know what the problem is?

Kathy, that sounds like a great idea. I was just about to offer to put a link on my links page, but I'm not sure exactly how to show that link! Could you show me how?
Not that I get a lot of traffic, but I do get a little.
Then also, I wondered. I joined the CCAC group a few days ago; they have around 4000 members; I'm only there to study, same as on cc.net; I don't have any cushpups. But - how about an announcement on that group? I believe the group owner would go for it. I could always ask permission before posting. Maybe some of you are on that list too:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CanineCushings-AutoimmuneCare/
As you know, I already link to k9diabetes on my links page, and also, on every main page on my site (right-hand side links). But that doesn't indicate how to find cc.net for now.
I can change that page very quickly; just need to know to do it, and how to post the link.
Also, when the time comes, I can change the link very quickly to return to the original cc.net.

I got the links, and I'm gong to put the temporary link on my home page on Coherent Dog. My visitors are mostly in dog-behavior and training, but numbers of ones concerning diabetes as well, among them some of my friends who are, I believe, on cc.net
I'll go put that on my site; you never know - and be ready to change the link back to the original cc.net one when the time comes.
By the way, I also refer to the Pet Diabetes Wiki.

Hahaha - I've been reminded very politely and in a very friendly way, privately, that it's odd for one Italian restaurant to advertise another! (well-put!) All the same, you cc.net people might like to know the owner of CCAC thinks highly of your site!
But somehow, I thought it might be going a BIT too far to post there, so instead, I HAVE put on my main page a pointer to cc.net here at its temporary host, and I put it on my links page as well.
As soon as cc.net comes back up, I'll change those announcements, and expect to leave the pointer to CanineCushings net on my links pages, because it's so commonly associated with diabetes. That is, of course, I'll point to the original site, rather than it's temporary version here.

Hi,
This is exactly the kind of response I was hoping for when I mentioned the 'google' thing! I have no idea how these things work and was hoping someone else would. Before I got up this morning I was thinking that if we put different phrases in that people might be googling like 'where has the canine cushings forum gone?' it might lead them here but that would be too simple! I have tried it by picking out sentences from this thread but it didn't work. We need a real computer geek to sort this out, apologies to all computer geeks out there!!

Hi ya'll,
Great work everyone! And I am so glad to see more cc.net members here today!!
I have set up pages at FaceBook and MySpace under the name of 'CanineCushing's net members'. I joined the two Cushing's groups on FaceBook this morning with posts to help members find their way here. If you are members at either place, join and pass the word on to all you know. Or set up your own pages using "Canine Cushin's" in the name.
Also Kim has set up a blog that will help get "hits" when folks search for 'canine Cushing's' or our group. The more we can post on places and mention the group name plus canine Cushing's or anything related, the better the odds of folks finding us here. Here is the link to her blog:
http://cushmom.wordpress.com/
As the resident techno idiot, I have just about exhausted my ideas of reaching folks so if there is anything more I can do, please tell me how.

I just started my dog Joe on Lysodren loading yesterday and came online looking for a little moral support and eeek! - no caninecushings.com:eek:.
So far Joe is doing fine, no adverse reactions to the drug, still eating, drinking & peeing & me looking on nervously, waiting for 'the sign' of when to stop.

For all who are finding us here:
First of all, good to see folks checking in here -- we're really glad you found us! :D
Secondly, if you want to ask questions and/or discuss your dog's Cushing's diagnosis and treatment, can you each please start a separate thread for your dog in this forum (the part of this message board called Canine Cushings) so that we can reply to you and not get the info about different dogs all mixed up. One dog, one thread, just like we always do at cc.net :)

Hi All,
Just a thought, I was checking my old e-mails and came across an e-mail of a cc.net member that requested access to my google docs before I made it public. Gave the address to Scott to contact. If anyone else has published anything at google docs or anywhere else, you may have an e-mail from another member requesting access.
I really feel terrible for some of the new members that just joined and finally found a help lifeline to help with all their confusion and are now left helpless again. Hope and pray they find there way here.

Hi ya'll,
I had one of my synapses fire this morning...I know, a rare occasion :p !
I set up an email just for finding our dear folks and when I entered the name I first chose, cc.net@______, it told me that had already been taken. So I have been going back and trying to set up variations of cc.net on several different email places like Yahoo, Hotmail, etc. If it says that name is not available, I take it and send an email from my new address asking if they are members. No replys yet, but I have hope!
John, that was a great idea! I just know with all these brilliant minds we have, our members will slowly but surely be found. Not all of us have gummy synapses and neurons like mine!:p:D

Hi All,
Had another brain farX. If you go to google search and type in "canine cushings forum" and search.
Then find a result that leads to cc.net
Click on similiar pages, then start checking the different results (all should be from the cc.net site.)
Then check on cached and the cc.net page for that thread will come up (snapshot taken early April 2009).
I've been checking hoping to find someone who may have put their e-mail in one of the threads. There are many to search. Also found the document for acth testing.

Gosh! I just looked at the members list and there are more of us here! :D
I hope everyone will check in and say "howdy!"
Now a request....does anyone know how to get in touch with Julie and Pip?

I too was wondering about Julie and Pip. I exchanged a few messages with Alison with information about vets in the UK for Julie so I know she was in contact with her but it was probably all done through messages rather than email. Hope she finds us soon.

Yes, that's right it was all done via the message board, unfortunately - no email.
One long shot would be for you (Linda) to ring or (email) vets in Nottingham until we can get a message to her. In fact any one of us could email the vets. From memory there are quite a few.
It's just possible that Saskia (LagottoLady) has Julie's email. Saskia hasn't turned up here yet though.

Just popping by to thank Natalie (belatedly) for putting us Cushings Refugees back in business! :)
Also very sad to learn how long it took me to find you all - I'm obviously not the brightest member of the group
I didn't realise how much I depend on your advice until I lost it for a week!
Now I should go off and start an Angelina Thread...
See you all there!

Alison,

Don't worry it seems that we do have her addy - I've just sent her an email. I've asked her to reply if it is her.

Oh I hope it is her! I found a deaf service contact in Nottingham and sent an email to them just now.
Thanks

Hi,
Wow, there must be hundreds of vets in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire so I'm glad you have found her address! If there is no reply I will have to work out how to get all of the vets numbers. Don't know why but I thought I read she was at a vets in Melton (which is Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire, unless there is a Melton in Nottingham too). I am away for the weekend so will check back on Sunday to see if you have had any response from Julie.

Leslie:
Thank you so much for contacting me through Facebook. I've been checking back to the CC.net site everyday, just to get the same generic site.
Thanks also to K9diabites for hosting us.

So glad you are here, Heather!
I studied the members lists of the Cushing's groups on Facebook, and if anyone seemed a tiny bit familiar, they got a note from me. Folks all over the place are now wondering who that blithering idiot is that emailed them! :p
Hugs to you and Kira!

Natalie,
Thank you so very much for giving us our avenue of communication back! When I was ready to post the sad news on Rusty, there was no site. However, I was able to contact Glynda who steered me here.
You're a blessing!

How do I post a photo on my site? I tried, but it said the photo had an error when it uploaded.
