This is the picture that shows the area Cebe's talking about. I think you said you found it but thought I'd post it here.

I used to inject Ali along her rib cage while she was laying down

You can rotate areas and sides of the body. Just be aware that different places may absorb differently. Often the thicker areas will absorb slower and I found the thinner areas to absorb more quickly.

There are different theories on using the scruff. Some vets will tell clients not to use this area because there isn't as much blood flow to the area for absorbing and carrying the insulin. Others only use this area.

I started injecting my dog there but switched when her tissue started becoming thicker. I know Tami uses the scruff for her pups. I'd just make sure you are rotating within the area. Try other places if you want and see what type of insulin response you get in comparison.

Any suggestions. Different from last week!! Little higher overall.

Wednesday we had company almost all day. Unusual for her.

on Tues and Wed here she comes down 70-100 points. Have you ever done some spot checks overnight before?

I'm curious to know if she's going too low at some point overnight before raising insulin again.

while we are talking shots, I went from having a dog who didn't notice her shots to a dog who turned into Cujo and tried to bite me during her shot. I had been rotating the area but I think I wasn't as careful about the 45 degree angle.

We are back on the scruff again, rotating as much as we can. It doesn't hurt her there. Here is a picture of the 45 degree angle. It helped me

Yeah, I was thinking since her daytime low seems to be around 3pm-ish perhaps she's lower overnight. So check a couple times to see what the 3am numbers are looking like. She may just be higher at night without the activity but it's worth checking I think.

Is she still eating the DCO food? There are some members that DCO works for and others have gotten larger swings in blood sugar from it. Could be that by late afternoon her insulin is still active and there isn't much food left in her system to match it so you sometimes get lower PM fasting numbers.

I checked her last nite at 4 am.she was 598, and 513 at 6am,then 256 at 10 this morning. The only thing that is making a pattern is lower days and higher days, but the fluctuation of the days is not the same.some days low in late afternoon, some higher in late afternoon. Hard to tell what is changing it??? Even if it was flatter in the 200's predictably, might be easier.lol...how do u know when to try a food change??

I did find a less fatty spot on the side of her neck this a.m. for her shot.I think I will try shoulder area, and see if that changes anything.

Jackie.

I found that switching the spots, certainly caused a difference in how the absorption was. I now give Abby (and with some consistency in her numbers), along the side. I found that in the scruff, it took so long to absorb, and not well.

In the shoulder area, I found that it absorbed too quickly, and at least for Humulin, she would run out too soon. I have not tried this area since we have switched to Novolin. What I did find was that along her side, I get the best absorption, more even absorption. I switch (or rotate) each side. Left in morning, Right at Night (rhymes so I remember;))
