Re: Lucy, our rescued cattle dog, is an angel... April 21, 2014

Lucy... such a lovely and resilient soul.

A truly happy moment when we, thanks to Rick, managed to pull her from the "family" who was threatening to kill her and lying about why... Fortunately, I...

Re: Dog diagnosed with diabetes 4/28/20

Looks like there's a neurology practice pretty close to you. (I can see your IP address but no one else can.)

I can't overstate how useful a veterinary neurology consult can be. They can tell so...

Re: Dog diagnosed with diabetes 4/28/20

The challenge with his mobility is whether it's the high blood sugar that's entirely the cause, partly the cause, or not related.

Usually, diabetic neuropathy shows up only in two situations -...

My apologies for taking a little while to approve your membership. Your posts wouldn't show up until I did that.

Was his blood sugar very high when diagnosed?

Weeks at very high blood sugar can...

Re: Weight Loss

Can you test her blood sugar at home?

You can use a human meter, which costs less than the pet ones. OneTouch Ultras are very good with canine blood in providing accurate results and you can...

Re: Who took their dog to a specialist? Advice?

He wound up being on Regular (relatively fast acting) insulin so thatís how long each injection lasted. He was allergic to NPH (to the protein added to it) and the Vetsulin-like product available at...

Re: Who took their dog to a specialist? Advice?

We used various diets over the years. In my experience in these forums, the prescription diet often works extremely well and our dog was on dry Science Diet WD for a long time.

We later switched...

Re: Who took their dog to a specialist? Advice?

My goodness... pretty much the last thing you needed in your life was a difficult to regulate diabetic who doesn't live with you!

There's ideal, which most of us can't do, and then there's what...

Re: Who took their dog to a specialist? Advice?

Take a look at the main website for general information on regulating, testing, effects of things like Cushings, etc.

In particular, look at honeymooning, which can mean that a dose of insulin...

Re: Who took their dog to a specialist? Advice?

I would be concerned about a 94 reading at night because it could have been lower before or after that.

Also, keep in mind...

Re: Who took their dog to a specialist? Advice?

Hope you mistunderstood the vet about NPH being a "weaker" insulin as there is no such thing. There are "weaker" solutions that deliver less insulin molecules than other solutions. But NPH isn't even...

Re: Please help me regulate her sugar??

Re: New Member too - question on changing to NPH

There's typically only a very small difference in units of insulin dose between Vetsulin and Novolin N. I would drop a couple of units only from the 15 you were giving, especially since the blood...

Re: Brief lockout of new member registrations

Finally got fed up after getting 30-50 new registrations a day and changed the human verification system. Eventually, they will figure it out, but for now I have vanquished them. :)

Re: Mochi has damaged his eye...worried
