Re: Newly Diagnosed, having issues

Good morning. Not a bad looking curve there. You should be able to safely move up one unit and do another curve in one week. Once you start to get closer to the 150 - 250 range for most of the day,...

Re: Newly Diagnosed, having issues

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I agree with Raysaint. The starting dose of 20 units is way to high for a 62 lb dog. The normal starting dose should have been 12 to 14 units, twice daily. Then...

Re: anyone giving your diabetic dog glucosamine?

I give Lily Dasuquin with MSM and CBD oil for her arthritis. Neither seem to cause any problems with her BG.

Like jesse girl said, maybe wait a bit to see if he gets better.

Re: Who's dog here has recieved cataract surgery? If so please help!

My Lily had successful cataract surgery in 2014 and her eye sight is still good.

Her opthalmologist said that cataracts will not form again.

In 2017 she was diagnosed with Corneal Lipid...

Re: Lily - My English Setter

Just checking in with a Lily update.

She’s aging gracefully, but slowing down a bit as she grows older. I probably shouldn’t say this but she hasn’t had any ear or skin infections for a long time...

Re: Hemp Oil for diabetic dog

On the advice of one of my Lily’s vets, I started giving her CBD oil for her arthritis. She’s been on it for about a month now. It seems to help and I’ve been able to keep her insulin dose the same....

Re: Vetsulin vs. Novolin N vs. Novolin 70/30

Most of us who have switched their dogs from Vetsulin to Novolin N have been successful. You can get it at Walmart for about $25 per vial.

I would start your dog with Novolin N, which is an...

Re: Help for Romeo

His old food has about 22% protein and 11% fat on a dry matter basis, so that wood be good. I’d go back to that and see what happens.

If you do go back to the Natural Balance L.I.D., don’t change...

Re: Help for Romeo

Hi and welcome to the forum to you and Romeo.

The internist was right in reducing his insulin dose. A conservative starting dose for an 8lb dog would be 1.5 units every 12 hours. So now you are at...

Re: Diagnosed today - lots of confusion and questionable veterinary visit/info

Glad you’re home testing now and yes, you need to wait a week before you do a 12 hour curve. It takes a dog’s body 5 to 7 days to adjust to any change in insulin dose. Remember that getting a...

Re: Diagnosed today - lots of confusion and questionable veterinary visit/info

I’d get her to a vet as soon as you can. If you don’t trust your current vet, find a new one.

Insulin should be given, even if your dog doesn’t eat. Just so you know, here are the guidelines for...
