Re: Dudley

Re the greenbeans - not sure if you're giving raw or cooked. We give Mickey either steamed or microwaved (comes in a bag you just pierce with a fork and put in the microwave) - and he likes those....

Re: Hattie's diagnosis

Regarding the canned beans - we buy the bagged green beans that can be microwaved, and we have found some that we steam. All of our dogs (3), get these as treats, together with steamed baby carrots...

Re: going it alone, advice welcome

We are new to the diabetes club too (as I like to say :) - unless someone else has already suggested it, you want to feed your dog first, then give the insulin injection. This is a good rule of thumb...

Re: Help!..Hattie got shot at 7 and is now acting strange!

Do you have any Keto-Diastix in the house? It's not an optimum test - it's testing by urine instead of blood (you will want to learn to home test by glucose monitor), but it will tell you if she's...

Half Unit Syringes

This might be a dumb question, but are the half-unit syringes (BD) 5/16", 31 gauge, 3/10 cc the same as the syringes with the same specifications only without the addition of half unit increments?

Re: Mickey and home testing

Sandy - Thanks - You're right - it's probably worth just buying the whole thing. Hopefully tonight we'll get a chance to get to the drug store. When it rains, it poors, after work I go straight to...

Re: Mickey and home testing

Oh - It came with the One Touch Glucometer. I have the Alpha Trac and the device that came with it doesn't work so well for me. The other day, I had it set just one below the deepest, and it seemed...

Re: Mickey and home testing

Hi Tiggy's Mom -

The One Touch Ultra - I need to look into that one (is it a specific model?). We didn't get to try last night, the door bell rings and they all get excited. No point in...

Re: Sparky's in the hospital :(

Sounds like what Mickey did (the vomiting and non-eating) when he had pancreatitis. Hoping that Sparky is ok - Mickey turned around pretty quickly and we're hoping that Sparky does too.

Thanks for the thread. So cute, her word for Broccolli is "test". :):)

Even my husband doesn't want to give up on trying to home monitor (before he was a little resistant because he feels...

Re: Mickey and home testing

Pat - Thanks for that suggestion. I definitely will. I don't know how true this is, but when I was speaking to the Vet last night and I was telling her that I can't even get blood from the base of...

Re: Mickey and home testing

Actually, the lancets were the ones that came with the soft clix (but that was a good thought) - I don't know what I did, but I can't get the top back on. It just won't click in. When we got home...

Re: Mickey and home testing

Thanks so much - we will try again tomorrow after I get home from work and before I feed him. I'd love to do it in the middle of the day, but my husband and I both work. I work about 25 mins. from...

Re: Mickey and home testing

Well, I failed again. This time once I got the lancet into the device, it wouldn't close (the top just won't go back into place - I had it perfect before, so I don't know if I broke it, or what). I...

Re: Mickey and home testing

Oh - I hadn't thought of that - pinching and the blood. OK - I'm definitely going try it with the lancing device flat against him and I'll try it at the #4 as well. I'll hold off on doing it...

Re: Mickey and home testing

OK - I can see that this will work, when I'm actually able to do it right. My husband held him with Mickey's treat - and he was very good. The problem again, was that I couldn't get any blood, just...

I'm going to be testing Mickey at around 12:00 pm or so

In the meantime, the place I got his tag was at the following website address:

Re: Mickey and home testing

Pat: We've tried initially to use our Alpha Trac, but because of the difficulty getting any blood from the paws or the ears (and can't do the mouth because he will bite), we stopped and resigned...

Re: Mickey and home testing

We have the Alpha Trac. We purchased it from the Vet when he was first diagnosed. We started out at the beginning trying to do everything to stay on top of it, but it turned out to be very...

Re: Mickey and home testing

Pat - Thanx - I did misread that - about the 20-25% increase in the food leaving the insulin at the 2 units 2 x a day.

Mikayla: When you increased Sasha's food, and left the insulin where it...
