Happy Belated Birthday, Vinny! I am glad to hear he is doing better.
Maggie - 15 1/2 y/o JRT diagnosed 9/2007, Angel status on 6/20/16. Her mantra was never give up but her body couldn't keep up with her spirit. Someday, baby.......
Thought I'd update from our visit with the IMS on Friday. They did an ultrasound and found that the wall of Vinny's small intestine measures 6+ instead of 4.5 that it should. She believed that this indicated that Vinny has Chronic Intestinal Disease. (I think she may have said something slightly different but that is what I have in my notes.) Considering all that could have been wrong with Vinny, I'm thankful that it is something that can be treated!
She put Vinny on a month of Metronidazole and said that it should help reduce the inflammation. We'll keep him on the Iams Intestinal Plus and see how he does when he comes off the antibiotic. She said once we have this under control, Vinny's diabetes might be easier to control and he might need less insulin. He's on 18 units right now and has had a couple of low numbers that makes me question the 18. Problem is, he jumps in the first two hours by 150+ points! So we've been keeping a watchful eye on his bg numbers. Thank God for home testing!
So that's all I have for an update. Vinny is one dog that loves going to the vet, so he charmed everybody there...visitor's and staff alike!

glad you got an answer mel and it can be treated . probably most of the dogs that do struggle have something else going on one way or another which can have a big affect on the numbers

Thats great news! I'm glad he is going to be ok sometimes just finding out what is wrong can help at least now you can concentrate on healing
I wish my dog was good at the vets I'm just thankful they have shiny floors so I can drag Bob in
It is good to have an answer so you can focus on it.
I bet Vinny is a charmer with that face. Maggie is ok going to the vet - she is not ok with confinement to the kennels. So, they carry her around or let her loose. When she is loose, she tends to get into everything but they feel sorry for her.

Mel and the Charmer, Vinny
Lol Vinny the Charmer! Sounds like my ladies man Grayson...two of the vet tech women call him their boyfriend, and even the office girls are in love with him and his sweet disposition. He likes the vet, but isn't happy to be left there - and I've been told they let him wander the back treatment areas with his 'girls' because he is such a good boy for them. Maybe it's in the black lab genes...?
Glad he's feeling better too!
Grayson - 95lb black lab, 10yrs old, diagnosed 3/22/14 - Novolin N (27units) and Merrick Grain Free Buffalo and Sweet Potato dry food - Novox 100mg twice daily & a Cosequin supplement - Alphatrak2 & One Touch Mini
Wow!! Vinny's First Sugarversary was Saturday!! A year ago I would have never guessed that Vinny would let me poke and prod him like he does! I would have never told you that I would grow so close to "John's dog" that he comes to me before John most days! And I definitely wouldn't have told you this diabetes thing would make my dog more outgoing and such a charmer!
There is always good with the bad. Sometimes we just have to look for it!
Happy Sugarversary My Monster!!
