    Re: Heidi: Pancreatitis, Proteinuria, Hypertension

Lived in Sac. many years ago for a short time.... Most of my Life in Cal. was spent in Marin and Sonoma county. Sure miss Cailf. I will always be a California girl..... The girls seem to be doing pretty good. Tabatha gets checked 12:30pm for Blood sugar every day. Shes on 5 1/2 units right now. Never now what it will be from day to day. But I keep in contact with the Vet on it. Heidi seems to be doing good with her meds. Next week she goes in for blood work... I'm going to try and get on this board more often. You all are great...... Ellie in Maryland.... Talked to the vet tonight and on Tes. I'm going to do a glucose curve her. Will be interesting to see how the insulin works. Poor thing she's going to get alot of holes in her little arms that day...... Every 2 hours foe about 18 hours...... I feel for her but she is so good about it. She just lays there and doesn't move. Such a good girl......

Well, We are back in the hospital. Poor Little Heidi. Vomited 2 times and was walking down the hall and dropped. All I heard was a thump. They think she may have Addisons....She will be in the hospital over night and they will talk to the cardio DR. and do the addisons test... Should know more tomorrow.....Do you know anything about Addisons?????? Ellie

          Ellie,
I do know Addison's is essentially the opposite of Cushing's. It's called hypoadrenocorticism. Here's an exerpt from Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canine_Addison%27s_Disease

Let us know what they say...

            Re: Heidi: Pancreatitis, Proteinuria, Hypertension

Dr. Just called and Heidi doesn't have Addisons after all. OK so now what does she have ???????????? They are going to take her off of Enalipril and do a blood test thur. to see if that is the problem... The other problem is is that the first time she passed out she wasn't on Enalipril. I feel like this is Mystery Diagnoses. So now I'm going to pick her up and hope for the best..... ????????????????????????????????????????????????? What to do now??
Just picked Heidi up from the hospital. She looks good and feels good. We are hoping that the Enalipril is the cause of the Problem. Would have been nice 4 thousand dollars ago. But you do what you got to do..... Thur. she goes in for lab tests again.

              Re: Heidi: Pancreatitis, Proteinuria, Hypertension

Glad it's not Addisons! But very frustrating to not know what's going on. I would be skeptical as well that it's the medication since she wasn't on it last time. But hopefully Thursday will uncover some answers.

Will be praying they can identify the cause

                Re: Heidi: Pancreatitis, Proteinuria, Hypertension

Do her gums get pale or blue when this happens?

Check her gums and how long it takes for capillary refill by pressing on her gum with a fingertip and then releasing. If her circulation is good, it should turn pink again right away.

Lack of refill or pale gums is lack of blood pressure or supply, such as shock, anemia. If they are bluish, then she's not getting oxygen.

It sounds like the heart issue... are they going to do a cardiac ultrasound?... maybe you did already?

Sending our get well wishes to Heidi...

                      Hi all,
It's been awhile since I posted. Things are going OK with the girls. Heidi is now off of Enalipril . Her little body can't handle that med. So now I have these pills. Is there anywhere I can send them to to help someone that needs them and can't afford them????? I think we all need to help eachother to help these little love bugs we have.... Please let me know if someone needs them.
So, Heidi has her little shaky spells. Hasn't passed out thank god. I need to talk to the doctor. She's constantly moves from one spot to another. breaths a bit heavy and I can watch her heart beat through her ears.
With the( Enalipril ). the first time I took her to the hospital they put her on it. the second time they took her off of it then the cardiologist put her back on it and then she ended up at the hospital again and they took her off of it again. I'll you you all posted Hope your liile ones are doing OK... Thanks again for all the support... Ellie

                        Ellie,
She really has been through it with on/off the med hasn't she. Glad to hear she's doing somewhat better.

I guess I spoke to soon. Took Heidi to the vet. ended up taking her to hospital for blood work. Her Potasium is up again and they wanted to keep her to put fluids in her. I said no and took her home with fluid that I have to put under her skin. Tomorrow I have to do it and take her back for more blood test. That vet said that She will have to have this everyday if it works. If it doesn't they want to keep her tomorrow. MY vet says lets try something else. So which one is right???? The young one or the more experienced? Ithink I will go with the more experienced. I'll get back tomorrow after we find out what's going on..... Thank you for your concern.... Ellie

What a hard night we had lastnight or should I say this moring from midnight on. Pure little Heidi. Her heart was not acting right all night. Had 3 more episodes that I can remember while I was awake. Then at 6 am she threw up and face twitching. This morning at 7:30 I put the fluid under her skin. What a good girl she was. That needle is so big and pushing 200 cc's of fluid in her. She didn't eat breakfest but she did eat 2 bisquits. Ya' no at this point she should be able to eat what she wants instead of that yucky food they have her on. I don't think the food will keep her alive any longer.... Just thinking off of my head. It's not to clear this morning....... Pure little Tabatha doesn't know what to think. I had her sleeping with Mom lastnight, so I could take care of Heidi.... Anyway, guess I had better get myself dressed just in case. Ellie

                              Hi Ellie,

I'm sorry to hear that Heidi is struggling so... heart disease was probably the most difficult disease that Chris dealt with. He never took Enalapryl but he was extremely sensitive to three or four of the meds that would have potentially helped him feel better and he just couldn't take them. Digoxin in particular. And his heart beat even faster on Theophylline than it was already. The last year his heart rate was commonly 120 or higher and there got to be a point where I was relieved when it was "only" 160... A few times it was over 200.

I was surprised that she is apparently dehydrated. Is she having kidney problems too or is this arising from the heart disease?

Wish there was more someone could do for her.

                              Natalie

Today is not a good day.... Heidi Passed away at 1:30pm. I took her to the vet and there was just nothing that we could do for her anymore. She had so many problems that trying to fix one thing would creat a problem for another. She was having trouble breathing last night . I held her in my arms until she went to sleep. I love her so much.... I'll write more later. It's just to hard right now... Ellie
