  • Re: Hi Gypsy and I are new and have a few questions

Connie, it's wonderful to hear how great Gypsy is doing. It was pretty amazing to be able to watch her journey from the original diagnosis to normal BG following her surgery. I'm glad you still pop in to update us. Gypsy is such a sweetie and seems like a real character.

Thanks everyone, well I like checking back in on everyone. I am so glad the lump hasn't gotten any bigger too, still about a marble. Yes Gypsy is a character indeed, she's just looking so well I always forget she's 10.5 years old..a funny thing she did the other night was bite open a whole box of gravy powder and eat 3/4 of the mix.. don't know how she did it or how she got it.

i hope everyones nearest and dearest is doing well, i will spend tomorrow reading up on everyone as the weather is crap this weekend

          Gypsy update!
Gypsy is doing well, loves sitting in front of the fire and lazing about at night..but very active in the day.

I did take her to the vet for a swollen stomach on friday, seems likely a gastro intestinal upset, but will they will check her over again on monday. while i was there they also did a fine needle aspirate on the lumps we can find including the one on her neck from before...all came back as fatty cells...so all good there definitely lypomas...2 of them and still the same size...

Hope everyone is well. Gypsy is superb She still has her two lypomas (no bigger). shes doing well, loves her walks and her food. Very sad to read of the passing of so many beloved dogs lately.

Hi Connie and Gypsy! It is always nice to hear about Gypsy's continuing no-more-diabetes life. We probably should do an update so we can hear more all-is-good stories.

Hi all, just been catching up on everyones trials and tribulations...gypsy is great, apart from the fact she has deveoped cataracts and two more suspected mammory tumours but seriously both not showing any symptoms or slowing her down ...a real bummer that they are there though....she is the big 11 in january!!!

                          Connie,
I'm sorry to hear about the cataracts and the tumors. Will they biopsy the tumors then? Glad to hear she's as energetic as ever!

A big aussie hello to you to MaryLea,
Yes Gypsy had a very good outcome in regards to her diabetes she is so good at the moment...no diabetes still..but it was full on when she had it...highs/lows...we went through insulin like no tomorrow.

                            Patty,
Hello to you too, found the tumours about a week ago still very small...just going to wait a little bit to see if the grow in size over say the next few weeks...you know rapidly...so yes will get a biopsy i would say...cataracts well i figure shes done well, she is 11 in jan...still as energetic as ever yes...but i can see a few symptoms i guess in regards to eye sight....only little things like i used to throw a treat up high in the air one, two, three and she would catch it all the time...lets just say she misses it all the time now and then has to sniff to find it on the ground and when i'm down the other end of the house she sniffs right up to my feet to find me lol...i've also seen her walk into a baby safety gate thinking it was open...mind you these are the only things i've seen....eyes look great though just a silver tinge to them...must go but i will check back in tonight

                              Hello again, Connie.

Ruffles has some cataracts, too, and I've noticed her following me by scent especially when there's not much light. She evidently can still see shapes.

She also has some fatty tumors which the vet says are not anything to worry about, and multiple warts all over her body. Vet says the warts are common in older dogs and just to watch to see that she isn't biting or scratching them so they bleed. If she starts doing that, we need to have those removed.

She's moving slowly today, but only when we coax her. Weather here has turned colder and BG is slightly up today.

I'm curious whether the vet feels the cataracts are from her bout with diabetes or have another cause. It sounds like they are fairly minor. Is it definitely cataracts or are the corneas just getting cloudy with age related changes?

Let us know what the biopsy says.
