  • Cat with Diabetes

I am a member of the K9Cushings Forum and was referred here for some guidance. Does anyone have a cat with diabetes or know where I can get some additional questions answered. My 12 year old DSH cat (Tigger) was diagnosed last night and they want to start insulin tomorrow, but I canceled the appt. until I get more information. I'm waiting on a phone call from the vet. I plan on calling in the a.m. though. Is there another site for feline diabetes? Any help would be great.
    Thanks,
    Sarah and Tigger

    Re: Cat with Diabetes

    Welcome Sarah and Tigger!

There is a board for feline diabetes called the Feline Diabetes Message Board. It's been around for quite a while and these are a lot of active members; there are plenty of people there day and night. Another good thing about it is they're very gracious in welcoming new people and answering questions.

You need to register there, just as you did for K9cushings and here--this is the page to do that at:

    http://www.felinediabetes.com/phorum5/register.php?8

After that's done, you want to read and post here--in the Health section:

    http://www.felinediabetes.com/phorum5/list.php?8

Feline diabetes has a home page with some good articles for just getting started on it--you'll see those links when you go to:

    http://felinediabetes.com/

I know the folks at FDMB will answer any and all the questions you have and that Tigger will be getting his diabetes under control soon!

    HTH!

      Kathy,
Thanks for the info. I was actually just on that site looking around then came back here to check on my thread. Anyway, I just posted and hopefully I will hear something shortly.
      Thanks again,
      Sarah & Tigger

        Re: Cat with Diabetes

        Hi Sarah,

Sorry to hear your cat has diabetes. The good news, though, is that unlike dogs it is sometimes possible for a cat's diabetes to go into remission.

I don't know if you ran across our home testing page, but there is a link there to a really incredible video a guy made... he might be a member of the FDMB... testing his incredibly mellow cat. It's very detailed with closeups - a great teaching tool:

His specific video is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zE12-4fVn8
