  • Can Loss Muscle be rebuilt?

As many of you may have read, Tee Jay was just diagnose with Diabetes.

My question is can the muscle loss be replaced once you get your dogs BG below 200 and keep it there?

Gave Tee Jay a bath yesterday and couldn't get over how thin his once fully muscled hind legs were... Cairn Teriers are a heavy muscled dog. His hind end looked like a Quarter Horse's.. Round and well built. Now Tee Jay has no rear end.. just a pot bellie with legs.. sad..

Is there any way to rebuild these and other muscles that are loss do to the Diabetes?

That's a classic sign of Cushings disease so if that isn't controlled you may not get it back.

Diabetes typically causes loss of weight throughout the body, Cushings in the hips and back legs.

Our 11 YO black Schnauzer lost significant muscle mass in his back legs in late 2008 and walked very unsteadily shortly after he was diagnosed with diabetes. We began insulin therapy and got his insulin level stabilized. Vet tests say no Cushings (yet). Now he has recovered most of the muscle and walks in his old "confident manner". Hang on - there's hope!!

        Thank you for this encouragement.

TeeJay is still loseing weight. lost one pound in little over a week.

        30 lbs in Feb,
        27 lbs on May 7,
26 lbs as of May 15.

He needs to lose weight for sure, hope it stops at around 20 to 22 lbs.
