hi all,
Hope you're all doing well. I haven't been on this thread for a while since Mochi seemed to be doing very consistently well with his blood sugar these past 7months. However, things took a turn today...his blood sugar went up to 21.4mmol (385mg) around 3pm and then right before dinner it was up to 29 (520). He also seemed like he was low on energy and didn't want to eat all his food. Besides that I noticed he is losing his vision...he injured his good eye last year pricking it on a rose bush and I heard he will never see clear on that eye again..however I notice his vision getting worse and worse. I was just wondering if this is normal?...

Jesse's eyesight and even her hearing has declined as she got older . She does not have diabetic cataracts but its just part of getting older as things wear out .
She needs a bit more help with things which is understandable but she is still jesse and happy We just adapt when a change occurs and thats ok

Thank you guys for getting back to me!
Mochi's blood sugar has gotten back to normal but for some reason it seems like his vision is decreasing quite fast...im getting really worried. He's been on azopt eye drops for a while because his eye pressure numbers are higher than the normal..im wondering if that's causing it to get worse..

Hello..
I decided to msg this group for some support. Mochi has not been feeling well and I've noticed a change in his attitude with eating his meal a few weeks ago. It slowly got worse and worse..he loves food and would eat everything and anything so noticing his lost of interest in food got me really worried. At first I thought it was a stomach upset..he was constantly eating grass and I hear his stomach gargle so much. I didnt believe anything was serious since he had his blood tested just a month ago..but he had his blood tested again and now it shows that his liver enzymes are super high..my vet got back only half the blood work so we're still waiting for the pancreas test to be back but he is certain that the pancreas is high too..im living this night mare again... I dont know what I've done wrong when I've been super consistent with him. Hes been eating the same diet for 3 years almost and his blood sugar has been consistent. I'm just in shock and confusion to why this is happening.. I will be bringing him into the vet all day tomorrow to get continuous iv fluid and he will also be needing an ultrasound. Please pray for him everyone..I just lost my other dog last year and I am not ready to lose Mochi.. Has anyone been in this situation that can give me any advice???..I've been panicking and not able to eat..im so worried..

Jesse has had her struggles with her digestive system from blood in her stools , loose and also diarrhea . We never tested for what was occurring which some may not agree with but we have developed strategies that got her back on track from a daily dose of milk thistle for the last few years . I have always thought with jesses food to be something that could be easily digested . Also her feeding of just one meal a day came along the lines to simplify digestion thinking one meal would give her digestive system a break . Lately she also was struggling eating her food so I reduced the amount she was getting and grind her entire homemade diet in a food processor to make it easier for digestion . She has no hard type food in her diet . Even her milk bone treat I crush it and drizzle milk on it to soften it up and this recent adaptation to her meal and snack has perked her back up in terms of eating . Her poohs are good which I closely monitor. I realize jesse is an old girl and we are not planning any major medical intervention at her age . We Just go with simple common sense approaches and as long as she is happy and not severely struggling for a specific amount of time we are good and a happy dogs life continues . I do understand eventually the bag of tricks will end and that's ok when that time comes but I dont know when that will be so we take it day by day and not worry to much about what might be . Always a prayer for you and Mochi . You 2 have done a wonderful job together managing the challenges that may pop up .

Mochi's got pancreatitis thats also causing the liver to have problems. Hes been hospitalized today to get continuous fluids and will be getting an ultrasound done.
![]() I dont understand what caused this problem with his pancreas and liver all within a month..my head has been going in circles thinking what caused it?..his diet has been a dry low fat kibble. He's been doing so well with his blood sugar too so im not quite sure what could've caused this..

Diabetic dogs just seem to be prone to pancreatitis . Jesse had it originally but knock on wood we have avoided it . Its all a mystery there are theories why but nothing written in stone . It sounds like you caught it early and that is so important . Things might be out of whack a bit so more testing of blood sugar maybe helpful .
