Hi all,
Our diabetic mini Schnauzer Dexter (dx September 2016, 6.8 kg) has been poorly regulated on Caninsulin, Novalin and (to a lesser extent) Levemir. His body appears to metabolise the insulin too quickly and usually has very high BG readings in the 2 or 3 hours pre-feed.
Our Vet in the UK has suggested a switch to ProZinc now that it is licensed for use in dogs. However, she has suggested an initial dose (0.5 units per kg body weight) every 24 hours (rather than every 12 hours with other insulins). I'm worried that the stated effective duration of ProZinc of 10-14 hours will not be enough to get him through the night if he has one shot per 24 hours.
Question - has anyone used ProZinc with their dogs and is willing to share experiences?
Many thanks,
Jools
