Thanks Barb, JesseGirl & Patty. Jessegirl, I think you are right. She is 100% on different food now so after the curve, maybe she just needs more than the 2 units. she was 351 tonight. I hope her cortisol doesn't need medication yet too

Adding my good thoughts. Hope it is as simple as a little more insulin to get the numbers down and nothing else is brewing.

Hey there Judi. I know it can be so hard to not jump to the worst, most difficult thing to figure out, but I would want to rule out that it wasn't just a rebalancing of food and insulin first as Barb suggested.

I hear you with the fear of relying on untrusted/vetted doctors. I have heard some really bad stories of care that some cushing's dogs receive.

I am sure we will all be thinking of you and Jenny and would love to hear if the fastings start to come down. I will be hoping and praying they do.

Lucky for both of us we found each other. I'd do it all again girly.

Thinking of you and Jenny and hoping for better readings.

Its horrible when a vet you know and trust leaves or retires. Hope you find a new one to work with who has the knowledge and experience to help .

thanks you guys. She was down to 301 today so I am really hoping it is the food but we'll deal whatever it is. It has just been nice not worrying about the cushings medications for awhile.

Hey Judy...Sorry to hear your Jenny is throwing curve balls at you. Hoping you find answers for her soon. I know all to well how a Cushings/Diabetic dog can be. We've been going down that road with PupPup for the last couple of months. We're trying to get some weight on him as well...he's so tiny it's making shot time very hard as there isn't much skin to grab to give him his shot. It breaks my heart to him cry when we give him his shot.

From what I'm reading, Jenny doesn't take any medication for her Cushings?

Hope Jenny gets on a better path for you soon.

thanks Molly. Your Puppup is so cute.

we overdid the Lysodren with her and almost killed her cortisol production. In December of 2011 her ACTH was perfect. In Jan 2012 her insulin needs dropped and she lost her appetite but I stupidly refused to think it was low cortisol because we'd just tested her

By April when we finally did another ACTH she was at .2. It's kind of amazing this dog survives me. We did a baseline test of her cortisol in January and it is up over 2 now so she is coming back. Her specialist didn't want her to return to raging symptoms again so he wanted me to start her back on Lysodren at 2 but I couldn't do it.

                        Judi,

How is Jenny doing? Is her cortisol still increasing? Just thinking about you guys....

Barb you are always so nice to think of us. I haven't scheduled her ACTH yet, I spoke with her vet yesterday and he agrees we need to get it done. She doesn't really have any symptoms right now.

My other dog, Ranger, is getting crappy fur and is so hungry he has tried to steal Jenny's food for the last couple of days. I have cushings on the brain and am worried about him but I think he is just annoyed that he is on a diet and the crappy weather we've had has everyone acting a little bonkers.

So, curve on Sunday, ACTH in the next week or so. Hope Abby is continuing to do well and that you guys are having a great Spring! I think Minnesota is skipping spring this year. It is still winter right now.

Keeping you and Jenny in my prayers and hope that she can go a little longer without meds.... And sure hope that Range is ok, but I know what you mean. You start seeing some similiarities and think... well, don't think too much

Spring/Summer is already here in NC. We have been having 80 degree weather (please don't hit me), but it was a long time coming this year. The pollen is very, very bad. No recent pictures of Abby, because she is my green dog, as of late, due to the pollen.

Thanks for asking... Abboo (what my nephew calls her) is doing well.

Has any vet suggested trying Trilostane instead of Lyso?

My dog Sidekick was first diagnosed with hypothyroidism, then Cushings. Lyso had no effect on him at all, even tho the Specialist wanted him on a maintenance dose, I disagreed. I tried another Specialist and we tried Trilo.
After a couple months of tweaking the dose, we hit it perfect, and he has been on it for 2 1/2 years.

Of course as soon as we got the Cushings until control, diabetes appeared, then blinding cataracts, had surgery for the eyes.

I know what you mean about too many vets. Side now has 3 different Specialists, IMS, Eye Doc, and now a Dermatologist, let alone 1 regular vet who is pretty much out of the picture except for very minor things. 4 vets total now.

It is overwhelming and we do our best. I hope you can get this resolved soon.
