Most vets do want to stay with prescription insulin, but not always for the right reasons.

Do what's best for your dog. Vets should be willing to try different things, that's how you find the right combination of aspects that achieve regulation.

Vets work for us and our pets. If they seem more concerned about their needs, you can make a change.

My vet, at the beginning, wanted to use caninsulin but gave me the option, that was good. She strongly insisted on their food, I said no way, and once she knew I had a mind of my own, we worked better together.

Just a update, we did switch to Walmart NPH insulin. Henry's numbers have stayed under 200 and usually around 150's over the last few months. Dosing stayed about the same, he was getting 18 units of Vetsulin and now getting 21 units of NPH. I have been happy with his numbers.

Great update . Yes most say the dosing stays about the same as far as units given . Of course the amount is different . Glad things are going well and keep us posted .

That's great news! I love NPH - so affordable and works very well for so many dogs. In a way, it was good that Vetsulin was pulled from the market for a while - it introduced a lot of veterinarians to how great NPH can be.
