Just wanted to give everyone a "heads up" that my Otis is not doing too well with his non diabetic issues, and would appreciate any prayers that reference him.

He's been becoming more frail by the day and last Friday morning he woke up at about 4:00 AM and headed to the kitchen (bless his heart for sparing the carpet) and threw up on the vinyl floor. It was very dark, almost black and had his dinner from the night before. He threw up 3 more times, the last two being pure liquid, all being very dark. He wasn't interested in eating his dinner and was given 4U of insulin morning and night. He ate very little over the weekend, and most of what he did eat he vomited out within 12 hours.

He's been on several meds recently, ... some for his ongoing sinus discharge / congestion problem, "dry eye" issues and some for his increasing joint and leg pain. Been in constant contact with his vet since the Friday episode and took him in yesterday, and left him for an intense assessment. The consensus regarding the dark vomit episode Friday is that all the meds were too much for his tummy and it hit critical mass Friday with the bleeding. We suspect it was the constant use of aspirin as one of the nsaids which was the primary culprit. The x-rays showed a section of his stomach as being very inflamed and it makes sense that's where the blood was coming from. He also has a very enlarged prostate gland.

He's clear as far as any tumor activity and there was no indication of pancreatitis. Doc noticed he wasn't his old "social butterfly" self yesterday and decided to check his glucose ... 21, it was! He was furious when I told him I informed the intake people Otis had threw up several times before we got there and had no insulin or food in his system, and there was nothing indicating that in the notes.

He's still not himself today and I'm hoping that a couple days of the anti vomit meds and the
cimetidine will allow him to get some nourishment into his system and get to feeling like his normal self. The poor guy's been through a lot, and I don't know how many "bounces back" he has left at 14 years of age.

Just thought I'd let everyone know whats going on.

Bill, I'm just checking the site. Haven't been here much since I lost Izzy last month. I can really relate to your feelings. Saying a prayer for you and Otis. It is not an easy road when they become seniors!
