Just wanted to say hi Haven't been around much Have had some bills with lCleo the cat that was obstructed He obstructed again on Valentines night ( Sat) I felt bad that I couldn't contribute to Lucy as my vet bills are large. So I took Cleo to a new vet( he had done surgery on my other cat years ago I forgot all about him!) I was considering the surgery to shorten Cleo's urethra to prevent obstruction again, Texas A & M told me $3500, This vet said $450. I think Dr B must of looked it up wrong? I left him there 1/2 day last Fri as I was concerned that he was obstructing again His Mo is he will lick himself down below before this happens The doctor didn't agree that we should go this route at this time He has managed a lot of cats with Royal Canin SO( script food) and has 1 or 2 a year that needs the operation. He offered to keep Cleo there for the weekend to watch him but I think that would be too much stress. He gave me a pill to give him daily that relaxes the urethra and I need to give him this till Monday. Leftover pills can be used if he obstructs again on the weekend. Another concern I had was what happens if he obstructs Do I have to pay for the catherization then the surgery? He said no the surgery can be done ASAP. BTW the surgery is a big surgery. Cleo loves the fod Damn $17 lb bag is $50 I guess I am used to this as Pebbles food was more $. So I have been bombarded with vet bills Have not had a chance to get caught up!!! There has been a diiferent opinions on what to feed a cat with a chronic obstruction A & M says ( a tleast Dr B) that a cat can eat just moist food and some vets say to manage it with script food. I think it has something to do with the ph value The vet mentioned that Cleo will have to come in for a USG check which is easy I don't have any more details until I talk further to the Dr. I just wanted to say I am back and I have missed ya'll.

Re: HI everyone trouble with Cleo
HI Marianne its good to hear from you. I know moist cat food is high protein and can raise their PH. My vet put my kitty on dry only, as she had crystals in her bladder. I hope Cleo gets betterForbin, miss you every day. See you at the bridge Buddy.

Re: HI everyone trouble with Cleo
I have a friend whose cat had to have this surgery. I remember it was quite expensive and this was years ago. The cat did well and lived another 4 or 5 years. I do hope for your sake that it can be controlled another way.
My sympathies about the vet bills - that one I can understand first hand right now.....

Re: HI everyone trouble with Cleo
Hi Marianne!!
Nice to see you here, but sorry for the reason for your absence. I hope Cleo is feeling better!
We were lucky. Gus blocked once six or seven years ago and it hasn't happened since. Is Cleo blocking with crystals or was it mucus?
Poor guy. He's lucky he landed at your house.
Gus' baby food diet costs $2.00 a day... damn expensive but it works for him so we have stuck with it. All he eats now is turkey baby food. And I swirl Jack's kibble around in what's left behind in the jar so at least we use every single drop of that dollar-a-bottle diet!

Re: HI everyone trouble with Cleo
I am not sure if it was crystals. I assume so The new vet I have now is treating for crystals as he said that the Royal Canin SO crystallizes the crystals I think. Cleo loves the dried food. I got a cheaper bag ( more lbs for $48: 17 lbs) It should last me a while He wants Cleo back on March 17th to do a urinalysis. I guess to make sure that his USG is normal Any feedback as to what else he wants this for? Cleo is doing great I bought him him first collar today He hates it as it has bells on it. Will see if he tolerates this today. He is a big boy (15 lbs) ,real laid back and loves for me to chase him so he can roll oer Weird cat! Has added a spark to at least one of my cats Yoda. They chase each other around the house Sabrina the other cat stays clear of him They just tolerate each otherMarianne and canines: Jasmine( diabetic since 4/10) Puma,Harley,Sebastian,Sophie and cats: Yoda,Sabrina and Cleo. Re: HI everyone trouble with Cleo
Hi Marianne, I'm Tracey a newbie here. I have a male tuxedo named Harry who had problems w crystals. He was acting weird one day, jumped on my bed and just froze for a min or two. Then when he moved there was a small urine spot on my bed. Most unlike him. Checked online for info and found out how dangerous it is. Took him to the vet immediately and they cath'd him and he was fine. They put him on Cousamin pills to help the lining of his bladder and Royal Canin S/O for urinary tract. I bought the canned and the dry. Harry liked the dry food, the canned not so much. Three months to the day, he started again. Took him to the vet and they were going to cath him again, but of course there were no guarantees it wouldn't happen again. I figured I can't do this every three months ( the first bill was $700) and what if we're all in and out for a few days and don't notice he's having issues. I decided to have the surgery. It cost about $1300 I think and he hasn't had a problem since. He was in the hospital for 2-3 days since he was having issues. They had to get things under control first. That was two years ago. He's not on the special diet anymore and he's quite healthy. He used to hide alot, now he's such the social butterfly. We still call him Harry even tho he's "Harriet" now.

Re: HI everyone trouble with Cleo
HI Tracey,
Thanks for sharing the story about Harry. So far so good for Cleo He loves the Royal Canin SO 33 But the vet and I agree that if he clogs again Cleo will be changes to Cleopatra. The surgery is $450. What a price difference Monday Cleo goes for his urinalysis. Cross your fingers that all is OK with himMarianne and canines: Jasmine( diabetic since 4/10) Puma,Harley,Sebastian,Sophie and cats: Yoda,Sabrina and Cleo.
