  • ReliOn Insulins

This question used to come up a lot at the other board, whether the WalMart ReliOn brand insulins were safe to consider using. WalMart contracts Novo Nordisk to produce these insulins under the ReliOn/Novolin brand. They are the same insulins which you get if you buy any of the Novolin brand insulin with the only difference being the price.

    http://www.relion.com/diabetes/insulin.htm

"ReliOnŽ/NovolinŽ is manufactured for Wal-Mart by Novo Nordisk, the world's leader in insulin production. ReliOnŽ/NovolinŽ insulin is available in three formulations: R (regular), N (NPH), and 70/30 (70% NPH, 30% regular). If you're currently using another brand of human insulin, changing to ReliOnŽ/NovolinŽ could save you over $150 per year!"

And here you can see that the label says Novolin in addition to ReliOn.
ReliOn comes in R/Regular, N/NPH and 70/30 types.

    "Is this a "generic" insulin?
No. There are no generic insulin products. NovolinŽ is a brand name for human insulin (rDNA origin) which is sold in Wal-Mart under the ReliOnŽ logo.

    "Who makes this insulin?
Novo Nordisk, a worldwide leader in diabetes cares and insulin development, makes this human insulin. Since the discovery of insulin in 1921, virtually every major breakthrough in diabetes treatment has originated in Novo Nordisk laboratories.

"Is there a difference between the way this and other human insulin products work?
No. All human insulin products work the same way to lower your blood glucose levels."

    Re: ReliOn Insulins

This is a great post. Also I know a human insulin dependent diabetic who confirms he has used both and there is no difference.

      Re: ReliOn Insulins

$150.00 a year????? For me its way more. of a savings.....
I have a large dog and a bottle if Insulin lasts me less then two weeks....
so I buy 3 at a time to be safe once a month......
The cost is half of what I did pay at the drug store .....39.00
so I use aprox 30 bottles a year at the drug store price it would be.. eleven hundred and seventy dollars a year.....$1,170.00
      At wall mart...$600. Huge savings.......
Also the needles by BD are a small fortune also......
ReliOn has the same needles for $ 12.98........ !!!!!!
And to think I use to hate Wall Mart!!!! Now I have a reason to go in there !!!
