I haven't had a dog with diabetes for 17 years now and consequently haven't stayed current. Basic concepts still apply of course. It irks me that all the same vets who refused to support and accept home blood glucose testing with handheld meters are now using the human monitors they called "unreliable" in continuous glucose monitoring systems. But that's another story!

The help previously provided by forums like this one all comes via Facebook groups now. Who knows where it will go next as the technology evolves.

So this is probably a good time to wind this forum down. Barring any significant objections, I will close the forum to new posts and new members (which we haven't had in a long time).

I feel a little sad because I think this format still provides the best, most reliable advice possible, advice that is inclusive, peer-reviewed, and administrator-monitored and doesn't prohibit anyone based on the way they opt to manage their dog's blood sugar.

I will leave the forum up for... years probably... as a place to visit. Everyone's stories can still help people in the future as stories on the old Canine Diabetes Message Board helped me. And I will leave the underlying website up with an aim to update the links in the near future.

I personally thank every single person who contributed to this forum over its 17 years and all those who graciously contributed to the CDMB before that. You provided excellent medically and scientifically based advice and warm support for literally thousands of individuals and their dogs over the years and even financial support in many cases. So many dogs lived their best lives thanks to your investment here, and it's both frightening and gratifying when I think about the many dogs whose lives were literally saved.
