Glad the consultation went well....interesting observations.
Hope the reduction in medication helps....I'm a bit partial to Border Collies.

Re: Border collie Jack
Natalie,
Criss Ann had lax ligaments in her back legs as well. It gave her a 'flat-footed' look, but I don't think her back legs caused her any pain. It was her front ACL's that were her problem.

Re: Border collie Jack
The consult today was good - we really liked the ortho / surgeon - very nice guy with a nearly 16-year-old border collie of his own.
The source of Jack's pain problems... that remains a mystery.
The good news being that the vet couldn't identify anything in particular wrong with Jack other than he probably has lax ligaments - kind of like being double jointed - that allow his feet, especially in back, to bend farther than normal. But he doesn't think that's painful.
We are going to try reducing his Metacam to see if that seems to make any difference in how he feels, just in case he may not need it.

Jeff got called to court for Tuesday (he's a police officer) so we had to reschedule for tomorrow.

Re: Border collie Jack
Hi there everyone - hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day!
Spirit had a memorable one - that's for sure, herniated disc in her back
Her gate is swinging left and her toes are starting to curl up, poor baby.
Anyway - with her being a diabetic the emergency vet (yes this literally happened Saturday night) wouldn't give her prednisone. From the thread, looks like that's something I should consider talking to my vet about when she sees her tomorrow?
Right now she's on Rimadyl & tramadol and is quite content. Happy & eating! But getting a bit concerned she hasn't gone to the bathroom.
Anyway, I hope Jack is doing well - and thanks as always for advice and well wishes.
Best,
Megan & Spirit
