Hello All,
I'm new here. My Bella is a 14 1/2 year old diabetic Border Collie Mix. We're not 100% positive of breed because she was dumped in a ditch as a puppy, and found by our son.
2 years ago, Bella was diagnosed as diabetic. We've managed it well, but approx 2 weeks ago, her abdomen started to swell, and fairly quickly it looked like she had swallowed a basketball. She was still in good spirits, still eating, and still wanting to go on her beloved walks, but was obviously uncomfortable. Monday we took her to the vet and they drained her abdomen. (They drained 1.5 liters, and I'm sure at least another half liter drained in the next 12 hours or so.) The vet feels she either has a heart condition or a tumor somewhere. (She mentioned the liver)
Today is Thursday, and since the abdominocentesis, Bella seems very confused and dejected. Her face and eyes don't look the same. She's kind of mopey. She had some mild symptoms of sundowners before the procedure, but now she wanders around the house all night, is very restless, and stares off into space. I feel we lost her the day of the abdominocentesis.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Is it normal? Will she bounce back? I just don't know what to think at this point. Thank you.
~Lisa
