Just an update re the vestibular disease thing: Bella has now fully recovered after a week and a half.

Re: Newbie needing help

We also had numbers all over the place the first 4 months or so, seems pretty common. And the food thing can be tough too, most changes we've made have resulted in diarrhea for a day or two.

I...

Re: Newbie needing help

Also Donna, if you have success with the Ketona, after buying from Amazon I realized it's quite a bit cheaper to buy direct, and they even send you free treats and stuff sometimes.

Re: Newbie needing help

Sorry to hear about your pup's struggles. First off, while not ideal, those numbers don't seem terrible if you're early in the process. For comparison, with my Bella we could not get her under 500 at...

Re: Pepper is boycotting all dog food

A few things my dog liked along the way:

Rachel Ray wet food
Blue Buffalo Turkey pate
Purina One Turkey pate

We settled on the last one, and slowly started mixing in Ketona dry food kibble...

Re: New member looking for advice

Hey all, an update and request for help:

Bella has been doing pretty good for the past 6 months or so. At 18 units 2x day her blood glucose has been consistently ranging from 180-300, and she's...

Re: New member looking for advice

Thanks for the advice! Gave her 15 units today and she's back to her 500-300 curve. Surprised that at 17 units she was going so much lower, possibly even hypoglycemic, but I can't see any other...

Re: New member looking for advice

Hi all, question about insulin adjustments.

Bella has been doing good for almost a month now on 17 units 2x a day. I haven't been testing as often, but the numbers were generally trending...

Re: Your dog's diet, insulin, and meter used

Now that my dog Bella is doing pretty okay with her diabetes + pancreatic cysts (likely caused by diabetes, and the cause of some insulin resistance), I figured I'd add our info here in case it helps...

Re: New member looking for advice

Sorry, might be some confusion as my posting here lags the changes in dose and diet, but I appreciate the concern as it made me double check her records.

It's been a week since we did the full...

Re: New member looking for advice

It's actually a cyst (or most likely that) on/near the pancreas and there is also evidence of previous cysts that drained themselves. It seems to point to either previous pancreatitis which caused...

Re: New member looking for advice

Hi all, just another update. No new curves yet, but Bella had an ultrasound and internist consultation today. It seems she has some unknown lump in there that's likely causing the diabetes and/or...

Re: New member looking for advice

Thanks, good point about weight gain and regulation!

And yeah, I think it may be worth it to try a new meter at this point. Is this the one?...

Re: New member looking for advice

Thank you both!

Yes, I was wondering if she's getting too much food. The vet keeps saying to feed her more, because she's lost some weight since this all began, but I think that may be mostly...

Re: New member looking for advice

And I figured I'd do some more testing around meal time this morning to see how it compared to those lower numbers last night:

06:30am: 442 (upon waking up)
08:30am: 378 (right after meal and...

Re: New member looking for advice

Hi everyone, just had a couple more questions that you may be able to answer. Bella had her eye doctor visit, and sadly she has glaucoma in one eye and mature cataract in the other. We likely won't...

Re: New member looking for advice

Yeah, it was a disappointing result this week. She seems to be feeling okay and drinking less however.

I think we'll put her back on the Prednisone eye drops, in case that was handling infection...

Re: New member looking for advice

Well, Bella's latest curve is disappointing. We went from 14 units (that curve posted earlier, the low point was 371), to 15 units:

01:00pm: High
03:00pm: 488

Re: New member looking for advice

Did a spot check today at Bella's usual blood glucose low, at she's down to 273! Never thought I'd be so happy about such a thing :)

We'll do another curve this weekend, but things are looking up...

Re: New member looking for advice

Just an update re: cushings. Bella tested negative with the ACTH test. I'm still suspicious of it though, since her bloodwork looks like cushings, and the test can give false negatives. There is an...

Agreed, will wait to see how her eye recovers and what the Cushings test shows.

We have been testing blood glucose at home, and at this point I feel confident raising the dosage quicker than the...
