Roli is a 9 year old bichon who was diagnosed with diabetes yesterday. I'm sure I'm just in denial but wanted to get some input from those of you with more experience before I start the insulin.
I took Rols to the vet yesterday because he had been peeing excessivley (had me up 2-3x per nite)..in all other respects he was acting normally..i.e. no weight loss (he's a bruiser at 30 lbs) very active (chases his ball excessivley) and goes for his walk 2xday...eating normally, etc. etc. Vet says he has a urinary infection for which he has antibiotics (started taking yesterday and is peeing less already)but she said she also wanted to test him for diabetes...urine tested positive and then blood also but she said she was surprised blood didn't test higher...she also said something about stress sometimes skewing results (roli was FREAKING OUT..he cries when I bathe him so you can only imagine what he's like at the vet with needles, etc. etc.)
...so I'm sure I am in denial but does anyone think I should wait 'til he's over the bladder infection and get him tested again using a urine sample when he's not stressed? Do I harm Roli by waiting 3-4 weeks before embarking on the diabetes treatment? Has anyone every heard of a false positive or am I thinking wishfully? Any help would be sooo much appreciated. thanx a lot
