Pepper, 7 yr old Min. Schnauzer, 7 Units of Novolin N 2 x day He has lost all vision in the last few weeks. So sad to watch him cope. Anyone know what is happening with this insulin??? I pick up another vial at another drug store in town but it cost me $30 more. Any info on this? Another Walmart is trying to restock from another warehouse but can't guarantee they can get it at the price they have been selling it. Marlu

Walmart is switching the Relion brand to Humulin N and it looks like the changeover is causing some shortages as you are the second person to report that you were unable to buy it.

Re: Walmart says they are discontinuing Novolin N Insulin that was being sold for 24.
Marlu,
As has been discussed on another thread, Walmart is switching their partnership from Novo Nordisk, the manufacturers of Novolin N who were labeling their insulin under the ReliOn brand so it could be sold at a cheaper price by Walmart and Sams Club, to Eli Lilly, the manufacturers of Humulin N.
This switch is to take place some time in Sept.
Novo Nordisk's Novolin N is not being discontinued, it will just no longer be sold as ReliOn Novolin N.
If you want to keep Pepper on it you can but will just have to pay a higher price.
Most dogs currently on Novolin N can easily switch to Humulin N without seeing any differences.
Beginning in Sept. you can buy ReliOn HUMULIN N at Walmart or Sams Club for the lower price. They have not yet disclosed what the cost will be but are saying that it will be comparable to their current ReliOn Novolin N.

This shortage seems to be spreading as I have heard on other lists of the same. Members not being able to buy it in their local Walmart's.Originally posted by k9diabetes View PostWalmart is switching the Relion brand to Humulin N and it looks like the changeover is causing some shortages as you are the second person to report that you were unable to buy it.

Marlu,
I was just glancing thru the responses on the 'insulin poll' and I see you have yourself listed as using, 'other'.....the ReliOn Novolin N that you are using with Pepper is an NPH insulin.
I know it can be a bit confusing at first...Humulin N and Novolin N are both NPH insulins.
