Re: Preventic Tick Collars Not Good for Diabetics

I've seen it mentioned here and there over the years as well as from owners that used the collars that for some these flea and tick collars can cause increases in glucose levels, usually only temporarily.

I'm not a huge fan of ehow, but I looked quickly and found this reference.

Hrm...perhaps it wasn't Interceptor that we used. It was a pill once a month for all parasites...I'll have to go check his records at the vets. But we were going to use the Frontline but apparantly around here, the fleas have gotten a bit used to it and with Hank's allergies, we need a good deterrent for the fleas so we went with the Advantix and have had great results with it. You know...am thinking it WAS the Interceptor and it was Heartguard we switched to on that front. Too darn many meds over the last few years! LOL

Shellie if your dog was allergic be careful similar ingredients in K9 Advatix and frontline we have to use a different topical called revolution as my Bichon is allergic to both k9 advatix and Frontline.

Having been through it - not fun really burned my Bichon's skin pretty bad and where it is an oil it took a bit to get it off of her

Luckily, he's not allergic to any of the flea meds. We switched simply because the Frontline wasn't working on our local fleas as well. Hank is allergic to fleas so we want the best stuff so that's why we went with the Advantix. I'm SO sorry you had to go thru that with your pup! It's always so awful when you yourself give them what causes the reaction! I'm glad you were able to get it off tho! Is your pup ok now?

she is ok now - thanks for asking she has really pink skin and seems to allergies to a number of things and get sunburn easily which I have never had a dog that gets sunburn

But after going through the allergis reaction with a topical that I put on her I felt pretty bad.

But now that I found the one that works best for her I am still waiting to hear back from the vet about Jake and see what she thinks about it elevating his blood glucose to be on the same plan as Bailey revolution topical and preventic tick collar ( It would make my life easier) but if it is going to harm jake I will have to do something different for him.

I have heard that dogs can get sunburn actually. A friend of mine has a poodle with really pink skin and she has to keep the fur a bit longer to cover him up! Glad she's ok tho! And glad you've found a regimen that can work for her. I hope that Jake will be able to use the same thing, too. It would make things so much easier for you! Please let us know so we'll have some good answers on the collar thing. Hugs!

I have a poodle mx that I must apply sunscreen to when he first gets his 'summer-do' and goes out to play.
Even after his fur begins to grow out I still apply sunscreen to the top of his nose and ears.

Dogs/cats can get skin cancer from prolonged sun exposure if not protected.

Light colored cats (especially) must also be watched for sunburn.

                    great link thanks -

I don't do it everyday when she is outside for very short amounts of time but we have a boat and we take Bailey and Jake out on it so then I do put sun lotion on her
