  • Has anyone been late for injection and how to get back on schedule question

I called my vet but the message was passed through the front desk helpers and they made 3 trips with 3 different answers.
Their answers were don’t feed or give injections until 9:30 PM,give an injection but dont feed, and then just feed him a little and no injection.
These answers are so different and giving an injection with no food my vet warned me of never to do.

    I explained the following,
My dog gets an injection after each meal twice a day.
Earl gets his injections at 9:30-10AM and PM and has been for 8-9 years.
I took some cold medicine and slept until 2AM this morning and Earl didn’t get his 9:30 PM injection and meal until 2AM last night.
He had no problems eating and he is fine now.
It is now approaching 12PM and 10 hours has passed since his last injection and meal.

Could someone share some experience or advice?
Hope I didn’t make it confusing.

Just to clarify my dog routine is getting his injection and food at 9:30AM and then 12 hours later at 9:30PM.
I missed his last night 9:30PM injection and feeding but gave him the food and injection at 2AM today or 5 hours late.
Now 14 hours have passed since his last feeding and injection.
He is acting normal and alert. It’s the first time I have ever been more than 1 hour off schedule.

I called the vet again and according to the desk help they said wait until his 9:30PM feeding and injection time but again it was not the vet that answered but the same person who told me 3 different things before and they sounded just as confused the second time.

A couple hours late you maybe ok . You can reduce the dose a bit to reduce the chances of over lap at next injection. At 3 hours or more it may be a bit more challenging and upset the next injection . The thing about Jesse her body adjusted to short term changes with no ill affects . I would not worry about it
Jesse-26 lbs - 16.5 years old ,11 years diabetic, one meal a day homemade and a vitabone snack . 3 shots of Novolin( under the Relion name ) a day . Total insulin for a 24 hour period is 6.5 units of NPH insulin .
