  • Royal Canin new formula

Rowlf has been doing well on Royal Canin for a little over a year now, but the latest bag I bought looked and smell different. She willingly ate the "new" food but her feces also looked different so I contacted the company. They very promptly sent me an email back with an explanation of why they had made changes. I've copied the change in ingredients from their email for anyone who is interested.

    Ingredients:
Added: Barley, wheat gluten, tapioca, dried beet pulp, fish oil, psyllium seed husk, FOS, L-carnitine, marigold extract (chicken meal moved to 1st ingredient, corn gluten meal went from 5th to 3rd.)
Removed: Rice, ground corn, wheat, rice hulls, vegetable oils

we just went through the same thing! Wellness Duck and Rice is now Duck and Oatmeal.....well - I was thinking it was just the rice/oatmeal that was changed. (stupid assumption)....got the bags (2 26lb bags) and it contains peas - which Soaphie is allergic to. Now we are starting over again. Bil-Jac sensitive solutions started as of last night....

Why do they have to keep changing things!!!!!!
Soaphie = 15 yr old Border/Berner mix dx 07/08. ~8.25 units a.m./p.m. vetsulin, blind/deaf. Ultra Senior, Vital Beef/Bison, Brown Rice and lots of loving. Soaphie passed on October 29, 2015. Sydney = 14.5 yr old Aussie/Shar Pei mix dx 11/10. NPH-varies w/ predinisone a.m./p.m., blind/deaf. Sydney passed on June 3, 2014.

          Hi sheureka
Just wondered which royal canin food you give your dog? I used to give cj gastro intestinal low fat but when the vet wanted to change to a diabetic food we had to change to eukanuba as royal canin did not have one. Thanks

She ran a little high for the first couple of days, but seems to have settled down now. The new formula has higher protein, lower carbs, and less fiber than the old one.

This is a diabetic food from Royal Canin. It used to be called HF 18 (??) but now is just called Diabetic. - sheureka
