      thats what i am worrying about sandy

      last time i been down this road with the original practice where jesse was treated they had her on seven units brought her in for a curve very erratic blood sugar i new nothing at the time ketones what part of the body is that and why would you want to get rid of them well they dropped it down to six units hold steady for a month and dont test to much they thought that was cruel

      went back a few moths later after being on the forum a bit i believe we reduced to 3 units from the six because of overdose the vet at the time demanded jesse be put back up to six units i said that aint going to happen and i never returned and found a new vet that has done well with her anal sack surgery i was very pleased

      but talked to him for just a bit about her diabetes and he thought she was not diabetic and take her off insulin it could take a week to figure and she would be ok at higher numbers i did it for a couple days and said this is not a good idea and we returned to insulin that was the last time i talked to a vet about her diabetes and that was a couple of years ago

      i will try pattys idea but i dont want her messed with she went through so much to get to this place hopefully they will say no problem and off to wallymart we go

        I'm in San Diego. It's been a few years since I bought syringes but I used a different WalMart once and they told me they wanted a "note from the vet." Not a prescription... a note. It was some assistant manager's policy or some nonsense. I went to my regular Walmart & got 'em no problem.

        If they gave you some but not a box that would indicate a policy and not a law.

        "Abusing policy?" What policy? Grrrr....

          yes rick it is a funky place i guess most people buying are diabetic and maybe drug users and i guess the second is the problem maybe Walmart that sees allot of drug users is where the restrictions come in

          thats good to know just maybe the other 2 doesn't have this policy we will find a way to make it work we know we still can get insulin and syringes and hopefully that will continue for a long time

            Thanks Craig and Bill, printing the page is a great idea. The last time I tried to get them at Walmart, I gave them the Relion item number that one of y'all provided to me and they couldn't find the product in their system. It got frustrating telling them the product exists and them not being able to find it. Then the pharmacist told me that a 1/2 unit really doesn't matter. Ugh.

            I admit that I still have a hard time with the cc vs unit issue so it's possible that I'm not using the right descriptors. But this last time I did go in with the product number and I was pretty clear (I thought). I have a Walgreens just down the street and I just bring the box top back to them and ask for another one.

            But printing out the page will work. No need to me to talk at all (probably a good thing).

              Do you have a good human doctor? If so, perhaps he/she would be willing to write the script?

                  I have no doubt the vet would have given me a prescription for the syringes but I found it simpler just to order them online at www.hocks.com. They didn't require a prescription and they had a good variety of syringes available. Not as inexpensive as Walmart but pretty good prices for BD syringes and quick and easy and delivered to the door.

                  I always hated having to ask for a renewal for prescriptions for insulin and syringes so was really happy to be able to buy insulin at Walmart any time I needed it and order the syringes and not have to keep "asking permission."

                  I've always been surprised, actually, that Walmart in California will sell the syringes in California without a prescription. I believe their sale and use is restricted as part of drug-abuse policies. There was a big deal a few years ago here about whether the county would do a needle exchange program to try to prevent dirty needles causing things like hepatitis. May have more problems if you try only to buy syringes but would be okay if you buy insulin and syringes at the same time.

                      I order 10 boxes... yes 10 boxes on line at American Diabetes Wholesale. In fact my garage looks like a warehouse for needles. I always like to be prepared... And I was never a Girl Scout.

                      Have you tried ordering on line?

                        hmmm i like the 10 boxes what brand are you getting off that site barb i am sure its the 30 units 1/2 marking and short needle i dont mind stocking up either thanks

                          I get the SureComfort brand. When ordering in larger quantities, you get better deals. I think one of the shipments, I paid $11 a box.

                          This is the brand, but you do get better pricing with a 5 box order, which brings it down to about $11 a box.

                          Remember to look for some coupons that will give you an additional $5.00 off as well....

                          I like these needles better than the Relion brand.

                              well i have solved my problem with the relion syringes i went to visit my kids in san diego went to the walmart down there and they would give me as many as i wanted got a years supply

                              i do like the relion brand and jesse hasnt had any problems so i really did not want to change

                              thanks to hollie sending a temporary supply from her decker which got us though
