  • Anyone heard of Dermoscent?

O/T but I wondered if anyone of you use or have heard of Dermoscent Spot on 6 for dogs?

I had to take Side to a Dermatology Specialist due to skin issues. Seems he has a bacterial infection all over due to his Cushings. Now I understand using medicated shampoo and creme rinse, I understand antibiotics for a month, but this Dermoscent has me puzzled (I didn't buy it). I looked it up, and the feeling I get is that it is just a "skin" supplement for lack of a better word. Or a type of holistic thing.

I'd like to hear from anyone who has used it, researched it, or formed an opinion about it.

I feel Side is past the supplement stage due to all his illnesses, and I know vets do like to sell you things that are "supplements" but not really proven to be effective.

I hadn't heard of it and had to look it up as well...

Essential 6® spot-on is formulated with 100% natural plant sourced active ingredients. Hemp seed and neem seed oils provide a high concentration of essential fatty acids with an optimal omega 6 to 3 ratio of 4:1. These vegetable oils along with ten essential oils (rosemary, lavender, melaleuca, cedar, oregano, clove, camphor, wintergreen, peppermint and curcuma) and with vitamin E are scientifically blended in this patented formula.

Essential 6® spot-on is designed to replenish the hydro-lipidic film, hydrate the skin, deodorize, and help maintain a lustrous healthy hair coat for cats and dogs.

Veterinarian controlled clinical trials on 210 dogs & 79 cats demonstrated a significant improvement in coat and skin condition in more than 95% of tested animals after just 4 weeks of use.

Seems like its a natural ingredient variation of something like Virbac's Allerderm Spot-On http://www.virbacvet.com/products/de...-lipid-complex

Both are supposed to help a dog with a compromised skin barrier to keep external allergens and pathogens out and keep water/moisture in.

I used the Allerderm a few times with Ali for allergies. Not really sure how much it helped. She was still pretty itchy, but I believe she also was dealing with inhalant allergens like ragweed.

Yes Patty I have read all about it, and I am not sure it does anything, maybe for a healthy dog, but Side has so many issues/illnesses that I am not sure this is worth it.

btw the vet wanted $35 for it, online it is $14.....which of course makes me wonder how much of this is snake oil.......ya know?

      Thanks for your response.

I used it a couple of years ago on Tiggy and it didn't do a darn thing. Just made her greasy feeling but she was still itching like crazy

Thank you for responding Sandy. There aren't many reviews about it, and the few that are just glow with amazing results, which make me skeptical.

I think I'll forgo it for now, and if I want to try it, I'll buy it online.
