My dog, Elliot, has high trigylceride levels and I trying to find out what others have done to lower trig levels in their dogs.
He has been getting vitamin E and fish oil supplements for 3 months. In July, his trig levels were around 1900. Vet suggested a switch to w/d food. I switched to a different low fat food instead b/c I felt more comfortable with the ingredient list. Last week, his trig levels were tested again and they were around 1500.
Neither test was a fasting test. The July test was done 4 hours after he ate and last week's test was done 8 hours after he ate. Not sure if that matters seeing how high his levels were (vet said the normal range is like 50-200).
Vet is suggesting either adding Chitosan or switching to w/d food. Has anyone had success with Chitosan? I've read conflicting reports on it's effectiveness and one article indicated that it can have a negative impact on the effectiveness of insulin w/ diabetic dogs.
I'm supposed to talk to the vet tomorrow.....so I'm trying to find out as much as I can before our conversation. Any insights are most welcome and appreciated!
Thanks!
