  • Re: Patty's Ali - seizures are back - at ER

oh patty i just got back from reno visiting my family for the past week and saw your post today on ali your wright some sort of intervention must be done with clusters

jesse had 2 seizures up in reno on night 4 and night 5 so back to back nights she always seems to do worse up there i dont know why .

we saw jesses cousin scooter a jack russel. as you know she has cancer they elected to not due chemo and the vet suggested prednisone . without anything she was given 3 months to live well they did the medication and 9 months later she is very happy and healthy the swelling has gone away no more of her terrible allergies and her coat is nice and shinny no more massive shedding and dry skin she got her crazy energy back also she has put on quite a bit of weight and i suggested to give her a more diabetic diet but they just want to let her have her normal food that she likes and thats ok .

you said you would like a little more time and what i was thinking that prednisone may help with that and give a good quality of life maybe helping with the seizures and brain inflammation as you suggested as a possibility . of coarse you may get some bonus relief with allergies and maybe your difficulties with giving shots maybe the discharge she is having maybe a correlation as Natalie suggested and might help with that. as you know it is a wonder drug yes long term can lead to difficulties but your not looking for that just a good quality of life for her senior life that you both can enjoy . you take such good care of her so that might not have such a big impact

i am not a researcher or have a clinical mind like you and prednisone may not be prescribed for seizures as a normal treatment compared to anti seizure medications but it has been used with success. so just a thought and something you might want to explore as a possibility .

hope and prayers to see some relief from this and extended time that you both would enjoy

I remember a doctor once saying no dog should die without the benefit of prednisone. I think the comment was made regarding just such use as Jesse Girl is talking about. Reducing inflammation in cancer cases and buying some time. Now this was close to 20 yrs. ago, but just a thought.

I talked to Patty about 9am my time as she was on her way to the regular vet's office after Ali had another seizure after they got home early this morning...

I stopped mid-typing to take a call from Patty. They are taking Ali to the neurologist in Denver to be seen today and she has some valium with her to give Ali in case she seizes during the drive over.

Hi all. We are in Denver. Ali had another seizure before bringing her in. Total count is 12 since we started. They've taken her down to the MRI area where doc is currently doing a test on another dog. Said she'd be gone 10 min. Its been 14 . Doc may have to do surgery on this dog he's seeing so I don't know what will happen next.

The tech is going to relay what he says and we'll go from there at this point.

She can't stand up right now and struggles to sit upright while laying. Lots of drugs in her.

                        I appreciate all your support.
