That's good that your vet would take the meds and supplies. Mine wouldn't and they wouldn't even give me names of clients who could have used some of the stuff. He only uses Caninsulin and the needles that I have are not the right ones. I don't think I can even send needles across the border to the US.

The only thing I would not have given them is the SAMe as they charged me $73.00 (not a typo) for one box the first month Buddy started taking it.

      Hugs to you both

Oh Patty, I love the idea of making Ali's fur into something you can always have with you and touch and remember what she used to feel like. When I lost my first dog Stevie I used to take out her bandana and bury my face in it to breathe her in. It was very sad for me when I could no longer smell her. I think the ability to remember them in a sensual way rather then just from memory is a powerful thing.

I wonder if you could do a pillow cover so that it could just be Ali fur if there was enough for that. It feels like the finest spun gold wouldn't be good enough to mix with it. One of my clients was going to have her poodles fur woven and I would be happy to inquire for you if you would like.

When you say I feel I was the one who was blessed having her in my life. I know how true this is. There are some dogs who we are more connected with, almost like a soulmate. I don't know if Ali was your first dog, but it sounds as though she was maybe THE dog for you. The dog that you connect with more, that as you say is an extension of you. A blessing to live with and unbearable, having lived with them, to live without.

I know the days aren't close to getting easier, but I hope you are finding some ways of making them bearable. I am very impressed that through your pain you were able to donate meds and to thank others. It doesn't surprise me though, as you are such a giving person.

Lucky for both of us we found each other. I'd do it all again girly.

Hi patty, thinking of you and thought of your idea of making something from Alis fur and thought of this. My friend is planning on making one of these bears with her girls fur when the time comes. She a beautiful elderly GSD with multiple tumours and currently struggling. Hope the link works and the little bears look so cute and indivdual. A give a physical presence, which is important.

I know how hard routine are to break. Some probably never will change. I sleep in a long sleeved T shirt, summer and winter, a for many happy years my little siamese cat Baby slept in my arms every night and sometime clawed me. I have a very strong bond with this girl, tube and syringe fed her during her last weeks and held her every night in my arms hoping she would slip peacefully away. She didnt though, and one saturday evening three years ago looked at me with blank eyes and I know it was time to let her go, so off to the vets we went. The point of this is I still sleep in a long sleeved T shirt, cant seem to change that habit that she created.

I do hope Tim is with you this weekend. So kind of you to make muffins for the vets staff. You are such a kind and generous person, thank you so much Patty. I bet they will miss you too. I think getting out of the house is a good idea, even if you dont feel like it. Going to the cinema, distracting yourself with friends and errands, going out for a meal with Tim. You probably wont enjoy these things but they may enable you to numb down the pain for a brief period and momentarily get some respite. I have found this helpful. You may feel guilty for doing this, but its important that life goes on, it a different sort of live now with a great big hole that Ali filled for you for 13 glorious years, but it does need to be filled.

Loved to hear about Ali as a pup, chewing the sofa, having her own chritmas decorations and toys. Tell us more Ali Storys when you are ready.

With much love to you this weekend. Thinking of you every day.

Louise, I was glad they could take many of her meds. They have clients who can't afford them and will offer them to those people when the need arises.

Doc said they only have 1 patient on Keppra so I do hope they can use it and only a couple on Zoni. Would hate for them to go to waste.

I have found 'homes' for many other things that have expiration dates. The cost of it all certainly adds up and I wanted to be sure it didn't sit but was used and appreciated by others. Ali gave so much and I wanted to give a part of her.

I gave doc a few meters awhile back. He had a client with a diabetic cat that was dropping too low on 1u Lantus. The owner couldn't afford a meter/strips. He now has my Relion Micro and doc told me yesterday the cat is doing well. The Micro's comparison on his cat is only about 40 points low which is good. Those stories warm my heart.

Ali was my first dog Tara. I grew up with goldens out in the country but they were outside dogs. Ali wrapped herself pretty tightly around our hearts even before diabetes.

Jenny, what a neat idea. It's sweet to see the pics of the animals next to their bear. Thanks for enjoying my Ali stories. I need to get some cleaning done today. My mom is coming for a visit next week. That will be a nice distraction. Then I want to scan my hard copy pics at some point that weren't digital. Will have to post some boating pics

              Thank you Carol!

Ali joins all the other forum dogs to support new member Dingo and his Dad Michael. Same as you, Patty - Ali's spirit is everywhere here!

And I'm suddenly thinking - 13 is a ripe old age for ANY Golden Retriever - and look how much Ali had to cope with - but, of course, thanks to you and Tim and all you did for Ali, she managed that ripe old age, not leaving us till the last possible moment (to join our Forum Crew at the Bridge).

Have fun cleaning Glad your mother is coming for a visit! Mine would have to come from the Bridge

We have had a lot of medicine changes with Shelby over the past few years that resulted in a lot of unused pills sitting around, and I was happy to find out that our vet will take them back and put them up to use for the humane society animals that come in. They are right down the street from her office so I guess she sees them a lot. They did buy back some one time, but it was one day after they gave them to me and they were unbroken.

I am happy that I saw you mention that because I need to take Shelby's old prednisone in since she switched to prednisolone. We have a ton of it.

I had to come check here after I was just watching Too Cute! on Animal Planet and saw a bunch of golden puppies. They are adorable, and they reminded me of you guys.

Hope you're doing better each day.

I came across this picture while I was searching for another pic and thought I'd share. This was after we went down to the neighbor's to get her with her bone she found in the woods (I actually distracted her later and got rid of it!).

Pure golden in this pic. She was a good girl that you could distract her and steal her bone! No wonder she loved her antlers.
