    I don't plan to taste it!

    I do have some diastix but they are well out of date. However, they showed high glucose with no keytones. Alpha track is not working.
    Ann and Yuli - Yuli is 11 yrs and was dx Aug 2012. He lives with 1 other Tibetan Terrier aged 14. Yuli is 39 lb and is on 25 iu Caninsulin x 2. Got his sight back June 19 2014.

      yes probably what minerals that are left after moister is gone . i would think salt also but since you said the outdated strips said high glucose i guess the sugar may show up also where i don't think that would evaporate .

      nice to hear the lens replacement went well . i guess allot of work with the drops and yes no play for now .
      Jesse-26 lbs - 16.5 years old ,11 years diabetic, one meal a day homemade and a vitabone snack . 3 shots of Novolin( under the Relion name ) a day . Total insulin for a 24 hour period is 6.5 units of NPH insulin .

        His eyes get drops 7 times a day, he is on antibiotics and also some tablets that are immuno suppressants to stop him from rejecting the lenses. He has two more days of these thank goodness. I am really concerned that whilst he has no immune system anything could flare up and be quite nasty.

        I will be out in the yard with a torch later!

          Oh my goodness!! I went back and reread what I typed to make sure I hadn't suggested that inadvertently!!
          Mel: My monster is Vinny! He's a black lab, diagnosed with diabetes June 21, 2013. His birthdate was celebrated the last weekend of May. He left this world on July 27, 2018, he was 12 years old.

            Ann,
            Great to hear from you. Sounds like Yuli had successful surgery. No tips to offer on the picture in your album - just wanted to stop by and say good to hear that for the most part all is going well.

                I observed the same thing right before we brought Jinx to the vet. White residue, somewhat crystalline looking. I'd guess it is sugar. Haven't seen it since we started insulin.

                  Mystery solved!

                  It happened again, this time the residue was yellow. I took a sample to the vet, the sample was like a resinous glue, something like Araldite that we have in the UK. It was caustic and smelled burned and it melted part of the plastic bag that I had put it in.

                  There is nothing medical that can cause this! We have a concrete back yard. They put concrete down, then put a mould over it so that it looks like paving, then it is coloured and finally sealed. This was done at least 10 years ago. The urine is reacting with either the sealant or the colour. We have patches where the urine has removed all of the surface, down to bare concrete.

                  My main concern was that this stuff might be blocking his tubes (no idea which ones) but this is not happening. He was examined and everything is clear. I could spend hundreds of pounds getting it analysed but I don't think it is worth it. Just relieved that he is OK. The yard gets hosed down every day so nothing dreadful should happen with this caustic residue.

                    i would have made the test for free just for the curious factor

                      Wow! I'm so relieved that the mystery is solved and it isn't anything dangerous!!!!
