  • Cloudy Eyes?

    Hi,

Maria (Border collie x) 12 y/o was diagnosed 2 weeks ago.
Her BG isn't stable yet but we are getting there. her insulin dose is being increased from 5 units of Caninsulin to 6 units from this evenings dose.

I noticed that her eyes seem cloudy particularly in the evenings a few hours before insulin. Once she has insulin her eyes become really clear.

Is this because of the instability of the blood glucose or is it a sign of cataract formation?

She was checked for cataracts at diagnosis and there was no signs.

results from he last curve in mmol/L
    9am - 15.7
    12pm - 13.3
    3pm - 14.8
    6pm - 19.5
    9pm - 14.4
    midnight - 9.1
    Maria, 30lb, Female, Border Collie X, DX - April 2015, 6 units Caninsulin x2.

      Thanks for the reply

She is 30lbs / 13.5kg, she had a very rapid weight loss just before diagnosis is was nearly 40lbs / 18kg, but her weight up until around the age of 10 was 33lbs/ 15kg which is the weight we are targeting to get her back to once she is stable, she is gaining weight VERY slowly she has gained 100 grams in the last two weeks.

I'm sorry to hear about your dogs eye problems.

It's so much to get your head round, It's hard to believe quite how much I have learned about diabetes in the last two weeks, I try not to but can't help but worry about the complications that can arise. I'm getting quite comfortable with the diabetes itself, but I literally want to call my vet every day when I notice something (like the eyes clouding) but my vet is amazing and I am in very regular contact with her for curve results etc, I just forget to mention things when I speak to her.
