Hi all I work in pharmacy so I can order my dogs Insulin myself. I took it out of the fridge to take home with me but forgot it. By the time I get to it , it will have been out of the fridge at room temp for 12 hours, do I have to bin it ? Can it be used and put back in the fridge ? I cant find any info on the caninsulin site and I don't want to take a chance giving her Insulin that may or may not be ok.

Re: CanInsulin unrefrigerated Help URGENT!
I know NPH can be left out of the refrigerator all the time. I think a brief period out of the refrigerator is okay for Caninsulin as long as it is just room temp, not warm. I would put it back in the fridge.
Is there a phone number anywhere on the Caninsulin box or bottle? If so, you can call them.

Re: CanInsulin unrefrigerated Help URGENT!
This is what the Vetsulin page says (Vetsulin and Caninsulin are just different names for the same product)... not very helpful as I doubt the vet is likely to know for sure.
Q. Can I still use a vial of Vetsulin if it was forgotten outside the refrigerator between doses?
A. Ideally, Vetsulin should be stored upright, protected from light, between 2°C and 8°C (35°F and 46°F). Vetsulin should always remain refrigerated. If you accidentally leave a vial out of the refrigerator, contact your veterinarian for instructions.

If you test blood sugar at home, you will know if there is a problem with the insulin when you give it again. My guess is that a brief period outside of the fridge is not a problem.

I accidentally left a vial out overnight recently. I checked with the pharmacist. She said as long as it didn't get over-heated, stayed at room temp, it would be fine. It had been out from 8 at night until 7 the next morning.Myriah
