  • Homemade Dog Food

Hi! I'm new here and my dog Loki was diagnosed about 2 months ago. Have any of you had success making your own dog food? For the most part, he really loves it but I think he might have a grain allergy because he has been scratching a lot. I do use lean meats but I have been mixing in a little organic brown rice. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Yes Jackie is correct we do a homemade diet partially raw with that being raw grounded beef heat and vegetables ( easy on the digestion ) . Cooked boiled eggs ,pinto beans and sweet potato yams . the only supplement we add is grind up egg shells for calcium . we use a coffee grinder to do that

i can give exact measurements of ingredients if you want. jesse is a 25 pound beagle . Not much fat in this diet because she did have pancreatitis early in this adventure but have not seen any return of that ( knock on wood )

this diet was a work in progress till we found what worked best with insulin and blood sugar . I actually removed some of the beef heart a couple years ago and added the pinto beans for more fiber and her diet has been the same for those 2 years but you never know i may change things up in the future . thats kind of the advantage with a homemade diet which you can mix and match

simple to make and may add 5 minutes over a commercial food as far as preparation and serve
Jesse-26 lbs - 16.5 years old ,11 years diabetic, one meal a day homemade and a vitabone snack . 3 shots of Novolin( under the Relion name ) a day . Total insulin for a 24 hour period is 6.5 units of NPH insulin .
