  • Diabetic friendly "gravy" recipes??

Does anyone have any recipes for "gravy" that their dogs have liked? My almost 12 year old Pom (diagnosed diabetic about 3 years ago) has been refusing to eat his Hills WD food for several months (after a bout with Pancreatitis). I had gotten him on a good course of eating chicken along with a "cookie dough" mixture I was making for him out of his new Royal Canin GI food (I think I was tricking him into thinking they were treats when it was actually just the crushed up dry food, wet food mixed with some organic sweet potato baby food!)...he was loving it and had started eating well again...UNTIL a bladder stone was found during an ultrasound and he had to have surgery to remove it...and now, he is refusing to eat AGAIN. So, I am back to the drawing board! Seems that we found a winner yesterday with baked 99% fat free turkey breast loins (he won't eat rice or veggies...so I am just going with what he will eat to get food in him!) but I would like to try to add a little gravy to it (an my thought is that if I can add some gravy, maybe I can also sneak in some carrots or green beans too!). Any diabetic friendly recipes that you have that your dogs have liked? He is so picky. I am just grasping at straws! Help!! Thanks, all!

Most gravy has starch in it, that's what make it thick. Starch is obviously a No No, but I am wondering if you could try gelatin or the fiber husk they sell in store, both can make a liquid thick. Of course gelatin is a protein and will contribute to BG, fiber husk will be helping to level BGs but watch out the amount, too thick may cause choking.

What about beef broth. Gelatin shouldn't do much to BG, protein doesn't usually affect BG, especially such a small amount.

We mix a bit of beef broth with Shelby's dry food.
