  • Regulated but losing hair

Well, without trying any supplements, I believe I've managed to get Vader regulated as well as can be expected. He is now getting 3 cups of a mixture of ground turkey, green beans and black eyed peas. He LOVES his food!

He is staying around 200-220 6 hours after feeding.

Here's my issue: It has always been my understanding that hair loss is usually due to sugar being off. Well, he is regulated-and losing TONS of hair. Not creating bald spots or anything, but coming off in handfuls!

    Any insight?

Vader: Black lab, 10 years old, 77 pounds-diabetic 1.5 years, 19 units Novalin N 2xdaily-Zantac, Glucose running around 175-220 lately.

With home cooking, it's important to have a vitamin supplement. Lots of people with sugar babies are using Nupro Gold. Daisy takes Animal Essentials.
Daisy 12 1/2 y/o 20lb Mini Schnauzer - 115g chicken breast, 45g chana dal, 55g green beans all chopped in a food processor, 20g Hills Perfect Weight, 1 tbs pumpkin, 8 units Novolin N q12h. Other meds-1/4t d-mannose twice daily, 1 Proviable DC daily, 1 multivitamin, 1/4t ground eggshells each meal, 1200mcg methyl B12 daily, 5mg zyrtec daily

Glad his BG numbers are looking good. Congratulations

Boy, the hair loss could be almost anything. I’d take him to the vet so that he can be properly diagnosed.

My Lily’s had a few hair loss problems. The first was symmetrical hair loss, caused by hypothyroidism. Then she somehow got sarcoptic mange and it’s associated hair loss. Next came several skin infections that caused blotchy hair loss. The skin infections were toughest to solve and I wound up taking her to a dermatologist to correct those.
Lily is a 62 lb English Setter, born 07-27-2007.
      Diabetes: Aug 2013

We've been to the vet and they've run just about everything possible on him. Nothing is pooping up as obvious. He does still have Horner's syndrome in his eye which is an indicator of some underlying issue-but it is clearly not something that is standing out as obvious.

I am definitely going to try the vitamins for sure though!

Could you show me exactly what it is that she is taking?

I apologize, Animal Essentials is the probiotic/enzymes she gets. She's on Vetriscience Canine Plus Senior Multivitamin.

            It's pretty cheap on Amazon.

Here's another good one a lot of people use:
