Never heard of anything like this working, i'm assuming if it did it would be prescribed etc.

Dogs are essentially like Type 1 human diabetics - rather than becoming insensitive to insulin as Type 2 diabetics do, they lose the ability to produce insulin and the destruction of the beta cells is almost always complete and permanent.
