        Re: plaque attack spray

I read a few user reviews just very quickly and got the usual mixed reviews... some people really didn't like the website. And the presence of alcohol in it was unpopular.

Following are the ingredients with the seller's description of what they are supposed to do.

And please note that someone from the manufacturer signed up on one of the forums I looked at and rather vigorously defended the product against criticism. They won't be allowed to post here but they were pretty aggressive in defending the product.

As a result, I'm not going to post a link to the product site here as I don't necessarily want them tracking back here. They may from the title of the thread alone, which is fine. I just don't want to link to them. A google search will turn up their site.

Another forum member complained that their information was sold to other companies and they started getting emails about products that they didn't want to receive. It seemed like you had to work rather diligently when purchasing through their website to avoid extra / double charges and unsolicited offers from other companies. That's a red flag for me.

Ingredients: Distilled water, grain alcohol, grapefruit seed extract,
proprietary blend of herbs & natural oils.

GRAPEFRUIT SEED EXTRACT: After 25 years in use by
naturopathic physicians, clinics and the general public grapefruit
seed extract has been proven to be a safe, non-toxic and effective
multipurpose (broad spectrum) compound with countless uses. The
pure oil contains high levels of vitamin C and E, and bio-flavonoids.
The important substances have an antioxidant action and can neutralize
free radicals that damage cells and cause a number of illnesses
including oral infections, tooth plaque, gum disorders
and is an excellent breath freshener.

GRAPE SEED EXTRACT: Grape seed extract uses only the seed and therefore does not contain anything toxic to pets as is contained in the flesh of red grapes and raisins. It has been studied since the early 1980’s for its free radical scavenging effect and its ability to inhibit histamine. This effect has been demonstrated itself to be 20 times more potent than either vitamin C or vitamin E. The flavanoids in the seed are known to reduce inflammation, and support the immune system particularly with respiratory issues, allergies, and skin problems. It has been used in cats and dogs successfully without any reported problems.

NEEM OIL: The products of the Neem tree are known to be anti-
bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-parasitic. The medicinal properties
of Neem have been described in ancient Indian medical texts (4000
B.C.) such as the Atharva Veda, Ghrhyasutras and the Sutragranthas.
The sanskrit name, nimba, is a derivative of the term nimbati
syasthyamdadati – meaning ‘to give good health’.

THYME OIL: Its main medicinal application is in treating coughs
and clearing congestion. Many current formulas for mouth washes and
vapor rubs contain thymol, one of the constituents found in thyme.
It also improves digestion, destroys intestinal parasites and is an
        excellent antiseptic and tonic.

ROSEMARY OIL: Rosemary leaves increase circulation, reduce
headaches and have anti-bacterial and fungal properties.

PEPPERMINT OIL: Menthol, its main constituent, has
antibacterial properties. Externally, the essential oil is
used in balms and liniments to stimulate hot and cold
nerve endings and increase local blood flow.

GRAIN ALCOHOL: It is second only to water in importance
as a solvent in medicine and is used particularly to extract active
constituents from inert parts of crude drugs. This concentrates the
medicinally active compounds and makes the remedy easier to dispense
and consume while also improving its absorption. The compounds
that normally dissolve in alcohol include alkaloids, glycosides, resins,
and volatile oils but not polysaccharides, gums, sugars, or proteins.
Combined with water to make a hydroalcoholic solvent, it acts as a
preservative by preventing hydrolysis and inhibiting fermentation that
would occur if water was used alone in addition to its anti-bacterial
        qualities.

Doesn't sound all that different from Petzlife. You can compare here: http://www.petzlife.com/catalog/oral...eppermint.html I wasn't crazy about the grain alcohol in it either, but Ali had such a negative response to the Maxi-guard oral cleansing gel I tried that I decided to give this one a try. We use the Vetzlife gel. Got it through a vet a couple of years ago. I'd heard that it didn't effect bgs from several members of another board. We only use it a few times a week.
