  • O/T Cat Skin Problem

My cat Audrey's had a major skin sore / rash for a month. Baytril, another antibiotic injection and cortisone injection are not working, so she saw a dermatologist today. I even put Revolution on her thinking it may have been flea / mites.
The dermatologist preliminarily thinks perhaps feline herpes. Audrey is 19 yo, so her immune system is not great.
Anyways, with the itching, she's been mauling herself and get a secondary bacterial infection. She got a biopsy today, and she is insistent on scratching herself on that site. The dermatologist did not cover it up.
Do I bandage this? This is on her neck / shoulders. Do I put some sweater on her? Is there an Elizabetgan color for cats? I left her dermatologist a message, but I am getting pretty desperate.

Yup, something that will take the itch out. Vinegar & then Gold Bond? If it's an open area, the Gold Bond may be better - less sting and will dry it up. Baking soda??? I think it will be trial and error.

I like your thinking sometimes the simplest things work the best ime a big proponent on duct tape but not for dogs and cats

Would vinegar be OK for secondary bacterial infection??
Gold Bond is a good idea.
M husband also got a sweater for her - hoping that this will lessen the impact of her sharp claws (I did just trim them).

Its a wonderful product I had a slight infection in my mouth and mixed it with water and used with a water pick and it cleared up in a couple days where antibiotics gave me hives

It may sting but at least it wont itch it can clear up infection it worked for me on a personnel level

I put a capful in my dogs food at mealtime hasnt had an infection since doing it not sure if its that or her diet its nice not to see things oozing out of places

Vinegar did not do the trick - she cried too much when I tried it.
My husband broke his wrist two months ago (now healed) - so we have a cast liner. We fashioned a sweater out of it as the store bought sweater did not fit her properly. She can't get to it at least.
The dermatologist says possible feline herpes infection with secondary likely antibiotic resistant bacterial infection. Biopsy and culture results will let us know for sure.
Meanwhile, I don't know what is going on because she peed on the bed while sleeping on my arms. I woke up to stinky wet bed and spent all morning cleaning it.
She is almost 20 yo - hyperthyroid and hypertensive, but otherwise well (we think - and we have her checked monthly). She's been an indoor cat since I got her 19 years ago, but she was a stray before - that could be where she got the infection.
