Re: Metacam
We never have supplemented.
Chris had fairly frequent blood panels so we were essentially monitoring his liver function while keeping track of other things. And he was on so many other medications that even though supplements might be supportive we really didn't want to add anything that we didn't have to. His heart problems required a lot of meds.
Would have been different if he showed any signs of problems. Chris also absolutely could not tolerate Tramadol so his arthritis relief options were limited.
Chris was weird with which drugs bothered him and which didn't.
Chris occasionally developed some very mild colitis (maybe three times in five years) but it always cleared up pretty quickly and didn't seem to be related to his meds. He had his first bout when his diabetes was diagnosed and he wasn't on any heart meds or Metacam at the time.
Jack definitely does not have a sensitive stomach! He eats five different kinds of kibble every day - Wellness in his Manners Minder, three different kinds in his meals (thanks to the Menu Foods recall), and Science Diet TD large kibbles to help clean his teeth - plus canned food with his meals and Natural Balance roll food for training treats.
And then he gets some rawhide and Greenies... you have to admire the stomach of any animal that can take in a big old rawhide chew or a bully stick.
So I guess I'm not all that surprised that his stomach is doing okay with a little Metacam on board. He had three blood panels over six or eight months related to his spinal issue and all looked normal on those.
