  • Lipomas

Our young dog Jack has recently developed a small lipoma on his shoulder. I'm familiar with them - Chris had a couple of them when he was older - but was reading up on them.

For anyone with a medical bent, you can see what one looks like at the following article by Dr. Tobiassen-Crosby (a lovely human being who writes articles for About.com's Veterinary Medicine section).

Go down to the bottom of the article for the link to a slide show of lipoma removal surgery.

      Thanks for posting.
A few years back, I was petting Abby's stomach area, and found a huge one near her chest, sort of under her front leg, which took me by surprise, as I never saw it as a smaller lump. Not knowing what it was, I took her to the Vet, and they did the Aspirate and it was all fat, and stated not to do anything.

Since then found another one on her thigh. That one also was tested, but it seems this one they are more concerned with. Apparently it is in an area, that if they need to remove would be difficult, but it does not appear to bother her.

In addition, since she as lost some weight, they do not seem so large, but I would not think they too would shrink, but perhaps the surrounding fat, just made them appear larger.
